- 1 large (8 ounces) sweet potato, cut into 1/4-inch wedges
- 3 teaspoons olive oil, divided
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, divided
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, divided
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 teaspoons mayonnaise
- 2 cups small broccoli florets
- 2 (5-6 ounces) salmon fillets
- 2 teaspoons everything bagel seasoning
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
Directions
Step 1: Preheat the air fryer to 400F (200C). Lightly coat a sheet of foil with cooking spray.
Step 2: In a bowl, toss the sweet potato wedges with 1 1/2 teaspoons of olive oil, and 1/8 teaspoon each of salt and pepper. Spread the sweet potatoes in an even layer on the foil, and transfer to the air fryer basket. Cook for about 10 minutes or until they are mostly tender.
Step 3: While the sweet potatoes cook, whisk together the Dijon mustard, honey, and mayonnaise in a small bowl. Set aside.
Step 4: In another bowl, toss the broccoli florets with the remaining 1 1/2 teaspoons of olive oil, and 1/8 teaspoon each of salt and pepper.
Step 5: After 10 minutes, push the sweet potatoes to one side of the air fryer basket. Place the salmon fillets on the other side. Spoon 1 teaspoon of the mustard mixture onto each fillet, spreading it evenly over the top. Sprinkle the salmon fillets with the everything bagel seasoning.
Step 6: Arrange the broccoli around the sweet potatoes and salmon in the basket. Cook for an additional 10 to 14 minutes, until the salmon is opaque and flakes easily with a fork, and both the sweet potatoes and broccoli are tender.
Step 7: Stir soy sauce into the remaining mustard mixture and drizzle it over the sweet potatoes and broccoli to serve.

History of Air Fryer Everything-Bagel Salmon Dinner
The Air Fryer Everything-Bagel Salmon Dinner is a modern twist on classic flavors, blending the convenience of air frying with the savory, nutty taste of everything bagel seasoning. While bagels themselves have been a staple of Jewish cuisine since the 17th century in Poland, the everything varietytopped with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, onion, garlic, and saltgained widespread popularity in the United States during the late 20th century. Combining these flavors with salmon, a fish long prized in North American and European cooking, reflects the contemporary trend of merging traditional ingredients with innovative cooking methods.
Regional Variations
This dish is predominantly American, particularly popular in urban areas where health-conscious and convenience-focused cooking trends intersect. In the Pacific Northwest, where salmon is abundant, local chefs often enhance this recipe with fresh wild-caught salmon and seasonal vegetables like asparagus or baby carrots. In contrast, East Coast adaptations might include a drizzle of maple syrup or a sprinkle of Old Bay seasoning to add regional flavor notes. The air fryer method ensures a consistent texture, making it appealing across regions without requiring deep-frying or complex preparation.
Differences from Similar Dishes
Unlike traditional roasted salmon dishes, the air fryer version produces a crisp, flavorful exterior while keeping the interior tender and moist without excessive oil. The use of everything bagel seasoning distinguishes it from plain herb-crusted or teriyaki salmon recipes. Additionally, pairing salmon with sweet potatoes and broccoli in the same basket allows for a one-pan meal that balances protein, carbs, and vegetables, a convenience not typically found in classical baked or pan-seared salmon dinners.
Typical Serving Occasions
This dish is commonly served as a weekday dinner for two, offering a quick yet elegant meal. It is also popular for casual family gatherings or as a nutritious option for meal prepping. Restaurants and cafes may feature variations as a healthy entre option, often accompanied by a light citrus or yogurt-based sauce to complement the seasoning. Its balanced combination of protein, fiber, and healthy fats makes it suitable for a post-workout meal or a refined dinner at home.
