Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 thick slices bread
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon

Directions

  1. Combine the milk, egg, salt, and vanilla extract in a shallow bowl.
  2. Dip both sides of each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring the bread is fully coated.
  3. Heat a large frying pan over medium-low heat. Once hot, add the olive oil to the pan.
  4. Place the bread slices in the pan and cook until lightly browned, about 2 to 3 minutes per side.
  5. Once browned, remove the toast from the pan. Top with maple syrup and sprinkle a pinch of ground cinnamon for added flavor.

Changes made for delicious breakfast: Used heavy cream instead of milk Added pinch of brown sugar Used 3-day old King Arthur Easy Sandwich Bread Drizzled the extra marinade over the bread while the first side cooked

This was a great recipe the first to not make my French toast slimey I do suggest housing butter and not oil and to add a little more vanilla extract all in all this was really good. Ps. It looked so good I forgot to take a picture until now so I already ate some

I used Pumpkin Chocolate bread and I used almond milk with pumpkin spice. It was some of the best French toast I’ve had. Thank you for this simple recipe.

Note: I did the 2x version of the recipe. Really nice. Been looking for recipes for one person. I was a bit nervous at first because I've never "fried" anything before (yes I know its not actually frying the toast) and didnt know how the olive oil would do. The toast came out nicely, though the first two pieces were a bit oily compared to the rest of the pieces. I feel like you could get away with a little less oil especially if you added butter to the pan. I have no clue where I read to add butter but I did oops. In the future I definitely need to mix the mixture up better so I hopefully dont have to many yolky bits hanging off the bread. The bread I used is also a bit old and dried, so that might have affected the outcome. Also the spatula I used made it difficult to flip the toast, so make sure to use a thin spatula the doesnt have sharp corners. Also, bonus points for the recipe not starting off with a bunch of info not relevant to the actual recipe. Would definitely recommend this recipe.

This was enough for 2 people. I had homemade bread and I cooked it higher and longer than expected. I used heavy cream instead of milk because that was all I had.

It was super good I used non fat milk instead and I used wheat bread tasted just as good but I’d only cook for 1-2 minutes if you make the same changes I did

It turned out great but in the recipe you should toast the bread because it makes the outcome much more fluffy and nice I improved there but it does make it taste better

Quick and simple recipe! Tasted great! I didn't use regular olive oil. I used olive oil spray and just lightly sprayed the pan rather than measuring out 1tbsp because that seemed excessive.

This is the perfect recipe for just me. I used pumpkin pie spice instead of cinnamon.

I would use less milk if you want a less soggier bread
