Homemade Pita Chips Recipe

Cook Time: 25 minutes

This easy homemade pita chip recipe is perfect for a quick snack or appetizer. Crispy, flavorful, and made with simple ingredients, these pita chips will be a hit at your next gathering.

Ingredients

  • cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried chervil
  • teaspoon dried basil
  • teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 12 pita bread pockets

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400F (200C). Line two rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic salt, dried chervil, dried basil, and ground black pepper. Stir well to blend the flavors.
  3. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice each pita bread into 8 equal triangles.
  4. Arrange the pita triangles in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Brush each triangle generously with the seasoned oil mixture. If all the pita triangles don't fit, set aside the remaining ones for later.
  5. Bake the pita chips in the preheated oven for about 7 minutes, or until they are lightly browned and crispy. Be sure to switch the position of the trays halfway through baking for even crisping.
  6. Once the pita chips are done, transfer them to a serving platter. Repeat steps 4 and 5 with the remaining pita triangles and oil mixture.

This recipe turned out fantastic! I made a few tweaks by omitting the chevril and increasing the amount of olive oil to about one and a half cups. Opting for wheat pita pockets was a great choice as they absorbed the flavors wonderfully. After baking them for 5 minutes, they came out perfectly crispy! **Update** I tried making these again, reducing the amount of olive oil. Instead of cutting the pita pockets into triangles and then brushing them with the olive oil mixture, I found it much simpler to cut them in half first and then brush on the mixture. Once each half was coated, I cut them into triangles. This method was a time-saver and worked like a charm!

This recipe is absolutely fantastic! It's also very easy to make. Following the advice of a few reviewers, I split the pita bread to make thinner chips and used olive oil cooking spray before sprinkling on the herbs and salt. I realized I was out of garlic salt just as I got home, so I improvised by making my own blend with garlic powder and grey sea salt (25% salt, 75% garlic powder). When I found out I didn't have chervil, I followed another reviewer's tip to use a mixture of parsley and tarragon. I won't be buying oily bagged pita chips anymore, especially since I used whole wheat pita, making them a healthier choice. Thank you, Dawn, for sharing this recipe!

Tasty and a great way to enjoy leftover pita bread. Instead of brushing oil on the pieces, I mixed all the seasonings in a bowl and tossed the pita in it for an even coating. Sprinkled coarse sea salt on top before baking. Opted for garlic powder to pair with the sea salt instead of garlic salt.

I absolutely adore this recipe! I created a flavorful mixture of olive oil, garlic powder, and pepper, which I brushed onto both sides of the dough. After stacking and cutting the dough into triangles, I placed them on a baking sheet, sprinkled them with grated Parmesan, and baked them for 5 minutes. After flipping them, I baked for another 3 minutes until perfectly crispy and delicious.

I decided to enhance this recipe by incorporating sesame seeds and chia seeds, as I didn't have any chervil available. Additionally, I opted to brush the oil and seasoning mixture over the entire pita bread before cutting it into wedges using scissors. After arranging them on the pan, I baked them for around 9 minutes in total. The resulting chips turned out absolutely perfect!

I found this recipe to be incredibly fast and easy. The combination of spices and the crispy texture made these absolutely delicious, especially when paired with labneh. I will definitely be making these again.

I accidentally omitted the basil and used garlic powder instead. This recipe was a breeze to make and cost much less than store-bought pita chips. We couldn't find them at the store, so making our own with pita bread was a fantastic alternative. The added garlic provided the perfect flavor kick that we enjoy.

I substituted white pitas with whole wheat ones.
