  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 (7-ounce) chive-and-onion cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley, plus more for garnish
  • 3 ounces low-moisture part-skim mozzarella cheese, shredded (about 3/4 cup), divided
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • Crostini for serving

Directions

Step 1: Gather all ingredients. Preheat oven to 375F (190C) with the rack positioned in the top third of the oven. Grease an 8- x 8-inch baking dish with cooking spray and set it aside.

Step 2: Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the breadcrumbs and stir until they are evenly coated in the melted butter and become fragrant, about 2 minutes. Transfer the breadcrumbs to a small bowl and set them aside. Wipe the skillet clean with a paper towel.

Step 3: Return the skillet to medium-high heat. Add the sausage and cook, stirring frequently and breaking it into bite-size pieces with a wooden spoon, until it is browned and nearly cooked through, about 2 to 3 minutes.

Step 5: Stir in the sour cream, cream cheese, parsley, 1/4 cup of the mozzarella, and 1/4 cup of the Parmesan cheese into the mushroom mixture until everything is fully combined and smooth.

Step 6: Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer.

Step 7: Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese evenly over the top. Then, top with the reserved breadcrumbs.

Step 8: Bake in the preheated oven for about 12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the edges are bubbling. Increase the oven temperature to broil (do not remove the baking dish from the oven) and broil for 1 to 2 minutes, or until the breadcrumbs are deeply browned.

Step 9: Remove from the oven, garnish with parsley, and serve with crostini.

This is a great recipe for parties..Make it ahead of time and cook at the last minute so it's perfectly hot. I added a few extras to it i.e. smoked paprika (yeah, I'm one of those people that add it to everything), fresh chives before baking, and durkee fried onions sparingly on the top. Came out incredibly tasty and perfect w/ a thick corn chip or melba toast. I also doubled the recipe since many also ate it as a side dish.

I haven’t made it yet, but I love this dip idea as stuffing mushrooms can be tedious! I always add finely chopped jalapeño to my stuffed mushrooms and will do that with this recipe. Also will omit sausage as I don’t use it in my stuffing normally. 4 stars as I know it will be yummy with my tweaks to suit my taste palate!

This is really good and was a hit at the Christmas party. Next time I will only add 1/4 cup parm to the mix and not top with additional cheese. As written, it is way too much cheese. Breadcrumb topping is nice but not necessary.
