A Plus Fair Corn Dogs Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 quart vegetable oil for deep frying
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- cup yellow cornmeal
- cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons bacon drippings
- 1 cups buttermilk
- 1 large egg, beaten
- teaspoon baking soda
- 2 pounds hot dogs
- Wooden skewers as needed
Directions
Step 1: Heat oil in a deep fryer to 365F (185C).
Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the bacon drippings.
Step 3: Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Add buttermilk, egg, and baking soda into the well, then stir until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
Step 4: Pat the hot dogs dry with paper towels. Insert wooden skewers into the hot dogs, ensuring they are secure.
Step 5: Dip each hot dog into the buttermilk batter one at a time, shaking off any excess batter.
Step 6: Deep fry the battered hot dogs in hot oil in batches, frying until they are deep golden brown. This should take a few minutes for each batch.
Step 7: Once fried, drain the hot dogs on paper towels to remove excess oil. Alternatively, you can serve them on paper plates.
