Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls Recipe

Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls Recipe

Cook Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients

This recipe was developed at its original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted, but cooking times and steps remain unchanged. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly.

Original recipe (1X) yields 24 servings:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • medium green bell pepper, chopped
  • 24 egg roll wrappers
  • 12 slices American cheese, cut in half
  • cup vegetable oil for frying

Directions

Step 1: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat. Use a spatula to break the beef into small, pea-sized pieces. Continue cooking until browned, about 5 to 7 minutes.

Step 2: Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Once mixed, transfer the beef mixture into a bowl and set it aside.

Step 3: In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are soft and translucent, about 5 to 7 minutes.

Step 4: Return the cooked beef mixture to the skillet and stir well to combine with the onion and bell pepper. Remove the skillet from heat and allow the mixture to cool for about 10 minutes.

Step 5: Lay the egg roll wrappers flat on a clean surface. Place a half slice of American cheese onto each wrapper, followed by approximately 3 tablespoons of the beef and vegetable filling.

Step 6: Fold the bottom left corner of each wrapper up over the filling. Fold in the two sides and moisten the edges with a little water to seal them. Roll the wrapper tightly to form the egg roll.

Step 7: Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Working in batches of 3 to 4, fry the egg rolls until they are golden and crispy on all sides, about 3 to 4 minutes.

Step 8: Remove the egg rolls from the oil and drain them on a plate lined with paper towels.

Made exactly as written and plan on only getting 12 eggrolls instead of 24. These turned out good but the would have been better if I would have used the entire slice of cheese. You expect a cheesesteak to be oozing with melty cheese and these were not. I'm still giving this 4 stars but I do recommend the one change. Lay half of the cheese down first and then the meat mixture as the recipe instructs but then take the other half of the cheese slice and lay it on top of the meat mixture before rolling.

Loves these! I used a whole slice of American cheese and used half a pack of egg roll wraps( probably because I made them larger). Will try them in air fryer next time!

These are so good. I added a full slice of cheese instead of a half and cooked the whole green pepper instead of half. They are amazing. I fried a few and air fried a few as well. Will make again!!

Great recipe. I added Serrano peppers and used cut up leftover Prime Rib. I also shredded cheddar cheese and mixed while cold. Still added American cheese but on top not the bottom of the wrapper. The peppers were for the GIARDINIERA usually on a great PCS. Fried at a 10 degree lower temp and the came out AMAZING, cheese was flowing . (Make sure you wrap tight but not over stuff). Glue wrappers with a corn starch and water mixture. Yes, I scrambled this re I’ve up but the original was the inspiration.

I have made this recipe like three times now and my honey raves about it. When I put the meat in the wrappers I usually use a cookie size scooper and put two scoops in. I use a little more cheese, peppers and onions. I cook mine in ghee. I usually get about 15 of these from one pound of beef. The kids love them too....5 stars with my family.

I'm from the metro Philadelphia area, so I know all about the infamous Philly cheesesteak. This was excellent. Omitted the green peppers( not a Philly thing) and used cheddar for some and American for the rest. Definitely will make again. Loved it !

Made these tonight. Really good easy recipe. The only thing I would and did do is more seasoning.
