  • 1 (16 ounce) package gnocchi
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 medium shallot, minced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 ounces ground sirloin

  • teaspoon dried red pepper flakes
  • 2 ounces tomato paste
  • cup vodka
  • cup heavy whipping cream
  • cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves, chiffonade

Directions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook until they float to the surface, about 5 to 6 minutes. Drain and reserve cup of the cooking water.
  2. While the gnocchi cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the minced shallot and garlic, gently cooking until the shallot softens and the garlic becomes fragrant, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Increase the heat to medium and add the ground sirloin along with salt and red pepper flakes. Stir and cook until the meat begins to brown.
  4. Mix in the tomato paste and allow it to caramelize slightly, enhancing its rich flavor.
  5. Pour in the vodka to deglaze the pan, scraping the browned bits with a wooden spoon. Bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream, mixing until the tomato paste is fully incorporated. Let the sauce gently simmer until it starts to thicken, approximately 5 to 10 minutes.
  7. Add cup plus 2 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese, stirring until fully melted and the sauce is creamy.
  8. Fold the drained gnocchi into the sauce along with the reserved cup of cooking water. Mix gently to coat the gnocchi evenly.
  9. Serve hot, garnished with fresh chiffonade basil leaves for a fragrant finish.
