Sesame Chicken Thighs Recipe

Cook Time: 50 minutes

This flavorful sesame chicken recipe is simple to make and packed with savory umami. With a rich, soy-based sauce and a sprinkle of sesame seeds, it delivers an irresistible taste. Serve with rice or your favorite side dish for a complete meal.

Ingredients

  • cup chicken broth
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons chopped garlic
  • 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds, divided

Directions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400F (200C). Line a deep, oven-safe dish with aluminum foil.

Step 2: In a small bowl, mix together the chicken broth, soy sauce, vegetable oil, sesame oil, and chopped garlic.

Step 3: Place the chicken thighs in the prepared dish. Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken, making sure it is evenly coated.

Step 4: Bake the chicken in the preheated oven for 40 minutes.

Step 5: After 40 minutes, sprinkle 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds over the chicken. Continue baking for another 10 minutes, or until the chicken is no longer pink at the bone and the juices run clear. The internal temperature should reach 165F (74C) when checked with an instant-read thermometer.

Step 6: Once the chicken is fully cooked, sprinkle the remaining sesame seeds over the top before serving.

Recipe Tip

If you prefer, you can use skinless chicken thighs instead of bone-in, skin-on thighs for a leaner option.

My family thoroughly enjoyed this dish! I made it with boneless, skinless chicken thighs and doubled the recipe to accommodate 5 thighs. We had plenty of sauce to drizzle over the white rice I prepared as a side dish, along with some delicious French-style green beans.

I used boneless, skinless chicken thighs cut into bite-sized pieces. Marinated the meat and then sautéed it. It turned out fantastic.

This recipe was terrible. I followed the instructions precisely, but the sauce turned out watery and lacking in flavor.

I followed the recipe exactly as written, and it turned out delicious! However, I have to give it three stars because the sesame flavor was not very pronounced. When following a 'Sesame' recipe, I expected a stronger sesame taste. It's a tasty chicken dish, but it didn't quite hit the mark as a 'sesame' recipe.

I decided to enhance the flavor by doubling the sauce recipe for 6 chicken thighs and incorporating 2 tablespoons of honey. However, the high amount of soy sauce resulted in an overly salty dish. To improve, I suggest using less soy sauce and incorporating some broth, or opting for low-sodium soy sauce. The addition of honey provided a nice contrast to the saltiness without making the dish overly sweet, akin to a honey garlic sauce. After cooking the chicken, I separated the liquid sauce, boiled it in a saucepan, and thickened it with cornstarch water to create a delicious gravy. The leftovers were perfect for a tasty stir-fry lunch.

The recipe was incredibly simple to prepare. I also encountered the problem of having a thin sauce, but, like several others, I removed the sauce after the chicken was cooked and thickened it with cornstarch. After that, I returned the sauce to the chicken, and that quickly resolved the problem! My whole family enjoyed this recipe, so I'm definitely including it in my go-to easy weekday dinner recipes!

The sauce was a bit thin, so using cornstarch could be helpful. I really enjoyed the chicken dish and have made it twice in the past 2 weeks. It pairs nicely with rice and is quick and easy to prepare. I skipped the sesame seeds since my husband isn't a fan, but it was still delicious.
