I prepared it using reindeer sausage, crispy bacon bits, and flavorful onion soup.

I substituted beef broth for chicken broth and added a splash of heavy cream to create a creamy sauce with diced peppers. The dish turned out fantastic - flavorful and easy to make. My family absolutely loved it and we'll definitely be making it again!

I decided to switch things up by using crushed red peppers instead of onions, opting for shallots instead and doubling the portion. I've heard some say you shouldn't cook onions and cabbage together, but I ignored that advice and used more shallots than onions.

I'll continue with the overall theme and award this recipe 5 stars. I initially had some doubts while making this dish. I was concerned that I had too much chopped cabbage and not enough ham. Consequently, I added more leftover Easter ham from the freezer. I ended up utilizing 2 1/2 tablespoons of butter and 1 1/2 cups of chicken broth (which turned out to be a bit excessive, but easily fixed by draining some). These were minor issues, but it would have been helpful if the recipe specified the amount of chopped cabbage in cups. This would have provided a reference for the quantities of other ingredients. Despite these small hiccups, the dish turned out excellent, and I will definitely prepare it again for myself. It's amusing because I didn't measure the exact amount of cabbage I used. Now that my husband is home and joining me for dinner, he is contemplating ways to enhance the dish's flavor. I'm disappointed as I thought it was a great low-calorie option.

I didn't have fresh onion on hand, but it still tasted just like my Dad's recipe. I whipped up some homemade cornbread to pair with it.

One simple tweak, a touch of sweetness. My mother always sprinkled a hint of sugar onto every salad.

Very straightforward and quick to prepare. I decided to include shredded carrots along with the cabbage, which enhanced both the visual appeal and taste profile.
