This hearty dish features tender beef tips simmered in a savory sauce, served over perfectly cooked egg noodles. Its the perfect comfort food for any occasion!
Ingredients
- 2 pounds sirloin tips, cubed
- yellow onion, chopped
- 2 (10.5 ounce) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup milk
- cup red wine
- 1 (1.25 ounce) package beef with onion soup mix
- 2 (16 ounce) packages egg noodles
Directions
Step 1: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the cubed sirloin tips and chopped onion, and saut until the beef is browned, about 5 minutes.
Step 2: In a bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, red wine, and beef with onion soup mix. Stir until well blended.
Step 3: Pour the soup mixture into the skillet with the beef and onion. Stir to coat the beef in the sauce. Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low.
Step 4: Cover the skillet and cook the beef mixture until the beef tips are tender, about 2 hours. Once tender, lower the heat further and continue cooking for at least 4 more hours, until the beef can easily be pulled apart with a fork.
Step 5: While the beef is cooking, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the egg noodles and cook according to the package instructions, about 5 minutes, until they are firm to the bite. Drain the noodles well.
Step 6: To serve, place a portion of the cooked egg noodles on each plate and ladle the beef tips mixture over the top. Serve hot and enjoy!

History of Creamy Beef Tips with Egg Noodles
The dish "Creamy Beef Tips with Egg Noodles" is a variation of the classic American comfort food, Beef Stroganoff. Beef Stroganoff itself originated in Russia during the 19th century and became popular worldwide, particularly in Europe and North America. Its American counterpart typically features beef cubes, a creamy sauce, and either noodles or rice as a base. Over time, various adaptations emerged, and one of the most common variations includes serving the beef tips over egg noodles, which adds a unique texture and flavor to the dish. This hearty meal has become a family favorite for its rich taste and relatively simple preparation.
Regional Features of the Dish
The recipe for creamy beef tips with egg noodles has regional variations, especially across the United States. While the basic concept of combining beef with a creamy sauce remains constant, ingredients can differ based on regional preferences. In the Midwest, the dish often includes mushrooms and onions, creating a savory flavor profile that complements the tender beef. In the Southern United States, you might find the addition of garlic, Worcestershire sauce, or even a splash of hot sauce to give the dish an extra kick. The dish is also commonly adapted for the slow cooker, a method that is especially popular in home kitchens across rural America for its ease and convenience.
How It Differs from Similar Dishes
While similar to Beef Stroganoff, creamy beef tips with egg noodles has some distinct differences. Traditional Beef Stroganoff often uses thin strips of beef, such as sirloin or tenderloin, and is served over rice or wide egg noodles. In contrast, creamy beef tips are made with cubed beef, typically from less expensive cuts such as sirloin tips. The sauce in this version is often a blend of cream of mushroom soup, red wine, and milk, which imparts a creamy and slightly tangy flavor. The addition of beef with onion soup mix creates a stronger, more savory base compared to the traditional sour cream and mustard sauce found in the original Beef Stroganoff recipe.
Where It Is Usually Served
This comforting dish is typically served in family homes, especially for casual dinners or special occasions such as holidays and gatherings. It's popular in American households, particularly in regions where hearty, warm meals are favored during colder months. The dish is commonly found in diners and restaurants that specialize in American comfort food, offering a nostalgic meal that appeals to a wide range of tastes. It's also a popular choice for meal prepping and is often made in large batches to be enjoyed over several days. It pairs perfectly with a simple side salad or steamed vegetables to balance the richness of the beef and creamy sauce.
Fun Facts About the Dish
- The dish is often referred to as "No Peek Beef" when made in a slow cooker, as the ingredients are left to cook without being stirred or checked on, allowing the flavors to meld perfectly.
- While the original Beef Stroganoff recipe used a rich sauce made with sour cream, many American versions use condensed cream of mushroom soup to speed up preparation while still delivering a creamy texture.
- Egg noodles are the traditional base for this dish, as their wide, soft texture complements the tender beef tips and thick sauce.
- Many variations of this recipe allow for customization, such as using different types of beef (like stew beef) or adjusting the sauce to include ingredients like garlic, Worcestershire sauce, or even a splash of brandy.

I made a few changes... My family and friends loved it! I omitted the wine. Browned the meat and onions together for 8 minutes. Then I threw all the ingredients (except noodles) in the crockpot, cooked on low for 5 hours-stirring every once in awhile. 30 mins before serving, I stirred in 1 1/2 cups of sour cream. Some people added Lawry's garlic salt. All in all, this is hands down, the best stroganoff we've had. Even my very picky kids were asking for it in their lunches.

A very tasty recipe with surprisingly lots of flavor for such few ingredients. I recommend searing the meat in 2 batches, in order not to overcrowd the pan (which causes a lot of liquid to be released and steaming to occur). This will ensure you get a nice browning on the meat, which will in turn make the sauce darker, instead of a pale, unappealing color. There are way too many noodles for the amount of meat. ONE bag is plenty, and you’ll get 6 good sized servings from this dish. I also found 6 hours is a bit long for the sirloin tips. Some pieces were starting to dry out. 3-4 hours would be plenty long.

This is also called "No Peek Beef" and can be made in a crockpot. Literally, throw everything in the crockpot, except the noodles, and let the crockpot do the work.

We love this recipe! Each time I have prepared, I do not cook it as long as the recipe calls for. At first, I just did not have time to take the 6 hours of cook time. I realized it was perfect with only a couple of hours of cook time and have been doing that ever since.

It seemed like too long to leave on the burner even on the lowest setting. I had to turn it off for periods of time. It burnt and stuck to the bottom of the pan, desite stirring, and cooked down way too much. There was only enough for one 12 oz package of noodles, but it did taste great and was creamy. Next time after simmering for 15 minutes or so, I will transfer to a slow cooker.

Made this tonight for dinner and it was a huge hit. Only things I changed were, adding fresh mushrooms, salt and pepper while Browning the meat and onions in the skillet. I also finished all remaining ingredients and rest of cooking in a crock pot. Meat was so tender and the sauce had a wonderful flavor. Thanks so much for sharing. Sorry I don't have a picture, family got into it several times before it was able to get to the table. I will definitely be making this again! Yum:)

The directions, prep time, and simplicity make this a perfect meal for those with little time to fix for two to four people. It is perfect and easy. I did not have egg noodles, used linguini instead but will try again with egg noodles.

This looks good, but you say "skillet," but what you really mean is a crock pot, because there's no need to sauté beef tips for two hours and then cook for four hours more. I am going to try this, though.
