Apple Pie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Granny Smith apples
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • cup brown sugar
  • cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 (14.1 ounce) package double-crust pie pastry, thawed
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar, for sprinkling

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450F (230C).
  2. Peel and slice the apples, then place them in a large bowl.
  3. Add 1 cup of white sugar, brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon to the apples. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Set the mixture aside.
  4. Roll out 1 pastry crust on a lightly floured surface and place it into a 10-inch glass pie pan.
  5. Fill the crust with the apple mixture and dot with butter.
  6. Roll out the remaining pastry crust and place it over the apple and butter filling. Crimp the edges together to seal the pie.
  7. Wet your hands with water and dampen the top of the pie. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of white sugar on top.
  8. Poke a few holes in the top crust with a fork to allow steam to escape.
  9. Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the heat to 350F (175C) and continue baking for about 45 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown.
  10. Place a piece of aluminum foil under the pie plate to catch any overflow from the pie.
  11. Remove the pie from the oven and serve warm.
