Apple Pie Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 pounds Granny Smith apples
- 1 cup white sugar
- cup brown sugar
- cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 (14.1 ounce) package double-crust pie pastry, thawed
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon white sugar, for sprinkling
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 450F (230C).
- Peel and slice the apples, then place them in a large bowl.
- Add 1 cup of white sugar, brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon to the apples. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Set the mixture aside.
- Roll out 1 pastry crust on a lightly floured surface and place it into a 10-inch glass pie pan.
- Fill the crust with the apple mixture and dot with butter.
- Roll out the remaining pastry crust and place it over the apple and butter filling. Crimp the edges together to seal the pie.
- Wet your hands with water and dampen the top of the pie. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of white sugar on top.
- Poke a few holes in the top crust with a fork to allow steam to escape.
- Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the heat to 350F (175C) and continue baking for about 45 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown.
- Place a piece of aluminum foil under the pie plate to catch any overflow from the pie.
- Remove the pie from the oven and serve warm.
