Black Forest Brownie Dump Cake Recipe
This easy-to-make dessert combines the rich, fudgy texture of brownies with the sweetness of cherries for a truly indulgent treat. Perfect for any occasion, its a simple yet decadent dessert that will surely impress.
Ingredients
- Cooking spray
- 2 (21 ounce) cans of cherry pie filling
- cup water
- 1 (18.4 ounce) package brownie mix
- cup salted butter, frozen
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350F (175C). Lightly coat the sides of a 9x13-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
- Pour the cherry pie filling into the prepared baking pan. Spread it evenly over the bottom of the pan.
- Pour the water evenly over the cherry filling. Do not stir, just let it settle on top of the cherries.
- Sprinkle the brownie mix evenly over the pie filling. Again, do not stir just spread it out as evenly as possible on top of the cherries.
- Grate the frozen butter evenly over the top of the brownie mix. The butter should cover the brownie layer completely.
- Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 35 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and slightly golden brown.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let it stand for 10 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to set and makes it easier to cut.
Cooks Notes
- If you prefer, you can cut the frozen butter into small cubes and scatter them over the brownie mix instead of grating it.
- If you dont have brownie mix, you can substitute with a chocolate cake mix for a slightly lighter texture.

Overall, this dessert was pretty good, but extremely sweet. I encountered the same issue as the Southern Belle with small clusters of dry brownie mix. I attempted to spread the mix evenly on top before baking, but it didn't help. However, halfway through baking, I stirred the dry spots a bit and that did the trick! It's always beneficial to read reviews before trying a new recipe.

I made this recipe for the first time and substituted cherry vodka for water. It turned out amazing! I also baked it for an extra 5 minutes. I used Hershey Triple Chocolate Fudge Brownie mix from Sam's Club.

UPDATE: After putting it back in the oven for a bit longer, the end result closely resembled the photo in the recipe. While I had initially hoped for a more traditional brownie texture, it turned out more like a molten chocolate delight. Despite not having any ice cream on hand (a missed opportunity!), the dish was still enjoyable. I followed the instructions precisely, opting to extend the cooking time slightly. However, a significant portion of the brownie mix dried out on top, prompting me to lightly mix it halfway through to reintroduce moisture. Considering these adjustments, I may give this recipe another try.

This dessert is a bit indulgent, but it's one of my favorites. I rated it 4 stars because we enjoy adding homemade cherry pie filling, which adds a bit of complexity to the recipe.

The consistency never thickened, it stayed runny like batter even after cooking for an extended period and letting it rest for more than 10 minutes. The aroma was delightful, but unfortunately, it didn't turn out as expected.

Slightly too sweet for me, I'll experiment with a chocolate cake mix for my next attempt.
