World's Best Sweet Potato Pie Recipe
Yields: 24 servings
Ingredients
- 3 large sweet potatoes
- 5 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup butter, melted
- 1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk
- 1 cup white sugar (or to taste)
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- teaspoon ground nutmeg
- teaspoon baking powder
- teaspoon lemon juice
- 3 (9-inch) pie shells, thawed
Directions
Step 1: Place sweet potatoes into a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 40 to 50 minutes, or until tender. Once cooked, drain the water, peel the sweet potatoes, and mash them in a large bowl until smooth.
Step 2: Preheat the oven to 425F (220C). In a medium bowl, mix together the beaten eggs and melted butter until well combined. Stir this mixture into the mashed sweet potatoes.
Step 3: Add evaporated milk, sugar, flour, vanilla extract, nutmeg, baking powder, and lemon juice to the sweet potato mixture. Stir until smooth, then pour the filling evenly into the thawed pie shells.
Step 4: Bake the pies in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Then, reduce the temperature to 350F (175C) and continue baking for about 40 more minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step 5: Once baked, allow the pies to cool for 15 to 30 minutes before refrigerating. Let them cool completely for 1 to 2 hours in the fridge before serving.
Recipe Tips
You can also cook the sweet potatoes in a pressure cooker on a wire rack until tender for a quicker option.

I absolutely adore this pie for the second time! The only modification I made was using 1/2 cup of brown sugar instead of white sugar and adding 1 tablespoon of flour for a firmer texture. I also used a homemade pie crust with extra spices. It was absolutely amazing!

This is by far the best Sweet Potato Pie I have ever tasted. I followed the recipe closely, but I did add a generous teaspoon of vanilla extract and accidentally used only about 6 oz of 2% milk - surprisingly, it turned out perfectly. I whipped the mixture in a food processor and ended up making just two pies. Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe!

Great recipe! Here are my recommendations: switching to baking the potatoes instead of boiling them makes a huge difference - believe me. Opt for heavy whipping cream over canned milk for a fresher and tastier result, in my humble opinion. Substitute half or all of the white sugar with dark brown sugar for a delicious caramel flavor. Enhance the mixture with cinnamon, nutmeg, and a dash of allspice for added depth of flavor.

I absolutely love this True Southern Sweet Potato Pie recipe. It reminds me so much of my Great 'Grandma Brown's' version, although my grandma had quite the sweet tooth. I always thought I did too until I tried her pie. Nowadays, I make this pie with half the sugar, making it essentially 'Grandma Brown's' pie with a little less sweetness. It's just perfect for me now! Thanks a lot for this amazing recipe!

I love baking potatoes to enhance their natural sweetness. Instead of white sugar, I use 3/4 cup of brown sugar in my recipe. I skip the vanilla and opt for allspice, along with either lemon or orange peel. This recipe, which I found in a very old cookbook, creates a tangy pie that's simply delicious.

I followed the recipe exactly for two family Thanksgiving gatherings and it turned out amazing! The recipe yielded three deep dish pies, which was perfect as everyone was eager to take home leftovers. I highly suggest using the Kroger brand frozen 2-pack deep dish pie crust for the best results. I tried a different crust for the third pie, but both myself and two others agreed that Kroger's was better and even asked if it was homemade.

*PERFECT SWEET POTATO PIE RECIPE* I was never able to get my sweet potato pies just right, until now. I made some tweaks to this recipe by adding extra vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon, and using heavy cream instead of evaporated milk. The result? My family absolutely loved it! This recipe is definitely a keeper. Thank you!

I skipped the lemon juice and added 1/4 cup of sugar, and it turned out fantastic! It was a hit with everyone.

The pies turned out absolutely amazing! I made a few tweaks by using 2 eggs and 4 egg yolks instead of 5 eggs to enhance the custard and avoid cracking. Additionally, I incorporated 1/2 teaspoon of Pumpkin Pie Spice for extra flavor. (I utilized the 4th pie crust for an Apple Pie!)

I made this sweet potato pie today and it turned out absolutely delicious! I'm very pleased with how it came out. I decided to add a bit more sugar and cinnamon, and it really enhanced the flavor. My fiancé, who is a chef, loved it as well. I highly recommend trying out this recipe - you won't be disappointed. Just a heads up, this recipe made enough for 3 deep dish pies for me.

I prefer to bake my sweet potatoes to enhance their flavor, and I personally think this pie could use a touch more sweetness. Nevertheless, it is still a very good pie.

This sweet potato pie has too many eggs for my liking. Personally, I prefer my sweet potato pies with just a small amount of plain cake flour instead of eggs.

Out of all the sweet potato pie recipes I researched, I settled on this one because it called for condensed milk. My mother, who always made the most delicious sweet potato pie, used evaporated milk in her recipe. I must say, this recipe truly lived up to its reputation. It has brought me back into the realm of making the "best pie" with its fantastic taste and the simple yet amazing Butter Flaky Pie Crust. Absolutely delicious! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This pie truly lives up to its name. It was absolutely amazing - reminiscent of a chess pie, but with the delicious flavor of sweet potato. The taste is perfectly balanced, complemented by the nutmeg and cool whip. It's not overly heavy either. I highly recommend trying this pie!

Delicious! I added an extra flavoring – almond or even orange flavoring can be great options to enhance the taste. It's delicious no matter what. Enjoy!
