Big Game Dip Recipe
Ingredients
This recipe is scaled from its original yield. While ingredient amounts adjust automatically, cooking times and steps remain the same. Not all recipes scale perfectly.
Original Recipe (1X) yields 20 servings
- 1 (2-pound) loaf processed cheese, cubed (e.g., Velveeta)
- 1 pound bulk spicy pork sausage
- 1 (24-ounce) jar hot salsa
- cup hot pepper sauce (e.g., Frank's RedHot)
- 3 large jalapeno peppers, chopped (optional)
Directions
- Place the cubed processed cheese into a slow cooker and melt on the Low setting, stirring occasionally to ensure smooth consistency.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the spicy pork sausage until browned and fully crumbled, about 10 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
- Transfer the cooked sausage into the slow cooker with the melted cheese. Stir to combine thoroughly.
- Add the hot salsa, hot pepper sauce, and chopped jalapeno peppers (if using). Mix until well blended.
- Cook on Low for 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Serve hot directly from the slow cooker.
Cook's Tip: For a milder version, use mild sausage and salsa, and reduce the hot sauce to cup. Avoid removing hot sauce completely, as it enhances the flavor.

My husband and two sons absolutely love this dip! I usually skip adding the extra jalapeno peppers, but it's still a hit. I can easily make a full batch in my small Lil' Dipper crockpot, and if I prepare it while cleaning up after breakfast, it's ready just in time for lunch.

I have been making this dish for years, using 6 habanero peppers instead of hot sauce. Remember to discard the seeds and chop the peppers very finely while wearing gloves. The end result is absolutely delicious!

Here is the revised review: The dip had a great flavor, but it was a bit too runny for dipping with tortilla chips. I ended up leaving it in the slow cooker for much longer than the 2 hours suggested in the recipe to thicken it up. Eventually, it did thicken, but not as per the recipe's instructions.

This dish is absolutely delicious, but I plan to substitute ground beef for sausage in my next attempt. Don't hesitate to add the spicy ingredients – the 2 lbs. of Velveeta mellows out the heat, resulting in a fantastic flavor.
