Camping Bars Recipe
Ingredients
- cup all-purpose flour
- cup quick cooking oats
- cup toasted wheat germ
- cup butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- cup blanched whole almonds
- cup shredded coconut
Directions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350F (175C). Prepare an 8x8-inch baking pan by lightly greasing it or lining with parchment paper.
Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, beat together the flour, oats, butter, wheat germ, orange zest, and cup of packed brown sugar on low speed until the mixture is just combined.
Step 3: Increase the speed to medium and continue beating for 2 minutes. The mixture should look somewhat dry but cohesive.
Step 4: Using lightly floured hands, shape the dough into a ball. Press it evenly into the prepared 8x8-inch baking pan.
Step 5: In a small bowl, beat the eggs together with the remaining cup of packed brown sugar. Stir in the almonds and shredded coconut.
Step 6: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the dough in the baking pan.
Step 7: Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step 8: Allow the bars to cool in the pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, cut them into 12 pieces and serve.

Fantastic recipe! The orange flavor is simply delightful. I've made this recipe twice already. A quick tip: for the best results, be sure to use orange zest for that extra burst of flavor, as orange juice just doesn't quite make the cut.

These camping bars make for a fantastic snack at home as well as on long hikes. I decided to enhance them by mixing in a cup of chocolate chips and a generous spoonful of peanut butter. The end result was absolutely delicious! The individuals I shared them with were impressed and even requested the recipe.

Amazing flavor! I ran out of Wheat Germ, so I decided to use ground flax seed instead. It gave a unique taste and turned out fantastic! This recipe is super easy to make. Next time, I'll reduce the cooking time slightly as my edges turned out a bit too dark.
