Old-Fashioned Baked Beans Recipe

Ingredients

  • 10 cups water
  • 2 cups dried navy beans
  • 8 slices crisply cooked bacon, crumbled
  • cup chopped onion
  • cup packed brown sugar
  • cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups water

Directions

  1. In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and navy beans to a boil. Cook at a boil for 2 minutes.
  2. Stir in the crumbled bacon, chopped onion, brown sugar, molasses, and salt into the boiling water.
  3. Carefully pour the mixture into a slow cooker.
  4. Cook on High, stirring occasionally, for 4 hours.
  5. After 4 hours, stir in 3 cups of water to the mixture.
  6. Continue cooking for an additional 2 hours and 15 minutes, or until the beans are tender.
