Cook Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

This recipe was created for its original yield. Ingredient amounts adjust automatically, though cooking times and steps stay the same. Keep in mind not all recipes scale perfectly.

  • 8 hot dogs
  • 4 slices of American cheese, each cut into 6 strips
  • 1 (8 ounce) can Pillsbury refrigerated crescent dinner rolls

Directions

Step 1: Gather all your ingredients and preheat the oven to 375F (190C).

Step 2: Carefully slit each hot dog lengthwise, leaving about 1/2 inch at each end. Insert 3 strips of cheese into each slit.

Step 3: Separate the crescent roll dough into individual triangles.

Step 4: Wrap each hot dog with a triangle of dough, making sure the cheese side is facing up. Place them on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Step 5: Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and puffed.

My niece absolutely adores these! They are a hit with kids of all ages - my husband has even been caught sneaking a few! I like to use the cheese-filled hot dogs and always serve them with plenty of ketchup and mustard for dipping.

To take your hot dog to the next level, try grilling the hot dogs before wrapping them or heating them in the microwave. This step helps ensure that the dough around the hot dog cooks thoroughly. For an extra flavor kick, add a tablespoon of Kraft Original BBQ sauce on top of the hot dog and spread it evenly. Kids will absolutely love it! Additionally, adults can enhance their hot dogs by adding cooked sweet onion strips. Simply sauté rings or diced sweet onions in a skillet with a bit of oil until they are soft and caramelized. To speed up the caramelization process, start with warm oil, add a splash of hot water, cover the skillet to soften the onions, then remove the lid and continue cooking until they turn golden brown. To assemble the hot dogs, create croissant squares using two triangles of dough. Place a hot dog diagonally across the dough, add half a slice of cheese on each side or down the center, then spread Kraft BBQ Sauce and top with grilled onions for the adults. Roll up all the ingredients in the croissant dough square and cook according to the instructions. It's a delicious and fun twist on a classic hot dog!

I absolutely adored this recipe and made a few adjustments. After wrapping the hot dogs, I used a pastry brush to coat each one with egg wash and then sprinkled Everything Bagel seasoning on top. The final result was absolutely perfect!

This recipe was absolutely delicious and incredibly simple to prepare. The gooey melted cheese takes it to the next level, making it a hit for game day or any family gathering. I will definitely be making these again, and I'm thinking of adding a chocolate-filled version to complement the flavors.

Extremely simple to make, the hot dogs were heated perfectly (as they were pre-cooked), and the cheese melted into a tantalizing oozy goodness. Definitely planning to make this again!

My 22-year-old son asked for these because we used to have them when he was young. They are just as delicious now as they were years ago! Simple and quick to prepare.
