Meatloaf Patties Recipe

Meatloaf Patties Recipe

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 slice soft bread, blended into crumbs
  • teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (or to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons prepared yellow mustard

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the beaten egg, bread crumbs, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  2. Break the ground beef into small pieces and add it to the bowl. Using your hands, mix until the beef is evenly moistened by the egg and seasonings.
  3. Shape the beef mixture into four even patties, making sure they are not too thick.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the patties into the hot skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, until they are nicely browned.
  5. Once browned, remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside on a plate. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  6. Return the skillet to medium heat and add the tomato sauce, chopped green onions, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and yellow mustard. Stir everything together.
  7. Gently place the patties back into the skillet with the sauce. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  8. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for about 10 minutes, or until the patties are fully cooked and firm to the touch. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of a patty should read 160F (70C).

Cook's Note: You can also bake the patties in the oven at 400F (200C) for a healthier option. They will come out just as delicious!

Nothing fancy here, just meatloaf, good old comfort food perfect for a weekday dinner. I cut back a little on the brown sugar (our personal taste preference), but the ground beef patties with the sauce really do taste like oven-baked meatloaf. Moving forward, I will add some additional seasonings to the patties. Since we can grill all year in Florida, I'll grill the patties, and then put them in the sauce to simmer on the stovetop (eliminating the splatter from the stovetop). Simple to make and quick to get on the dinner table, a winner in this house. Only one thing that I'lll miss...my leftovers for meatloaf sandwiches. :-) Thanks for sharing courteneynjones.

After reading the reviews I decided to make minor adjustments. To begin with, I have a large family so I doubled the recipe. I added 1/2 pouch Lipton dry soup (herb with garlic) to the hamburger mix as some reviewers thought it needed more flavor. I prepped my patties on the grill as one reviewer suggested. I used 8 oz can tomato sauce, 3 tbl spoons brown sugar and 3tsp worchestershire sauce and prepared yellow mustard each. It made a total of 9 patties approx 4 oz each. Served with hash brown patties, salad and a roll. The family loved it. Will be making this again. Another positive is this is not that expensive a meal for my large family.

With the exception of the brown sugar, I have made almost the exact same recipe. Also, I don’t ever measure. I roll into golf ball size meatballs and press them into muffin pans. Voila! Meatloaf muffins!

Excellent recipe! I had to substitute some ingredients because I didn't have them. Instead of green onions, I used diced yellow onions & added some sliced peppers; honey mustard instead of yellow mustard; regular white sugar instead of brown sugar; A1 steak sauce instead of Worcestershire sauce. I also added some diced onions in the ground beef. Also, I made long patties (like for Salisbury steaks) instead of meatloaves. All in all, the patties & sauce came out delicious!

Should cut the tomato and 1 onion diced then add everything else add to bowl. Mix, very well. May need to use your hands/fingers. Broil 6/7 minutes each side. This gets your ingredients through and through

My mom would make these in the summer when it was too hot to turn on the oven. I didn't feel the meat wasn't flavorful. I make them the way I would a baked meatloaf with egg, barbque sauce, cracker crumbs and saute onion and cheddar cheese. Sometimes I add bacon to it also. I didn't care for the sauce. I think I will tweak the sauce next time to add more brown sugar 16 oz of tomatoe sauce, minced garlic and green peppers.

I was looking for a easy recipe calling for ground beef with a little added touch and this hit the spot. The only change I made was to leave out the green onions, which I did not have on hand and can be a digestive issue for my husband and me, and the amounts to make two patties instead of four. The tomato sauce was tasty. I will make it again.

We loved these meatloaf patties. I made some changes to the recipe. I used cheese and garlic seasoned croutons instead of white bread. I also used sweet onion as I had no green onions. I left out the Worcestershire sauce and mustard. I followed all the stove top cooking directions and the patties were delicious!!! Very flavorful and good texture. Will make often from now on.

This was so easy to make and very tasty. I served it with rice, using the sauce on the meat and rice. Definitely will make this again.

It was easy to make! Kids loved it too! Doubled the recipe, used a cast iron, and it cooked up great. Didn’t have Worcestershire so used Teriyaki instead. Great improve
