Award-Winning Chili Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed tomatoes, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 stalks celery, chopped
- 1 carrot, sliced
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
- cup bottled steak sauce
- cup chopped green bell pepper
- cup chopped red bell pepper
- cup white wine
- 1 pinch crushed red pepper flakes
- 5 slices bacon
- 1 pounds ground beef
- 1 (1.25 ounce) package chili seasoning mix
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
Directions
Step 1: Begin by gathering all of your ingredients to ensure everything is ready to go.
Step 2: In a large pot, combine the stewed tomatoes, onion, celery, carrot, tomato paste, steak sauce, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, white wine, and crushed red pepper flakes. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally.
Step 3: While the tomato mixture simmers, place the bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the bacon, turning occasionally, until it is evenly browned and crispy, about 10 minutes. Once done, remove the bacon and drain it on paper towels.
Step 4: In the same skillet with the bacon drippings, add the ground beef and cook over medium-high heat. Stir constantly until the beef is browned and crumbled, approximately 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat and then stir in the chili seasoning mix.
Step 5: Add the seasoned beef and crumbled bacon to the simmering tomato mixture. Stir in the cumin and continue to simmer, allowing the flavors to blend and the vegetables to become tender, about 10 minutes.
Step 6: Stir in the kidney beans, fresh cilantro, and parsley. Let the dish cook for an additional 5 minutes or until the beans are heated through.
Step 7: Serve the dish warm and enjoy this hearty, flavorful meal!
