I always get told I make the bestest ribs from soldiers thanks to this recipe! FIRST, do not ignore the baking in the oven first b/c it removed 1/2" of fat juice in a 9X13 pan!!! THEN, it was hard to decide what sauce to follow since there were a lot of choices suggested, so I went to the most reliable (top rated on the site) called Sylvia's Ribs b/c why ruin perfect ribs?! Basically, dump 2C ketchup, 1C bbq 1C brown sugar, 2.5T lemon juice, 2t Worcestershire, several dashes of hot pepper, 3T steak sauce, cloves garlic ...directly into crockpot. LASTLY, most of the sauces used will be thin in the end, so definitely take out and put in oven at 375 for 20 min to caramelize the sauce onto the ribs (make sure ribs are covered in sauce when you put in oven). These were perfect! You will be a hero if you have a house full of men like me.

Five stars for the crock pot suggestion. Best prep is simmering ribs in water bath (with minced garlic, seasoned salt & Emeril's southwestern spice), for 20 minutes; then prepare BBQ sauce of choice (approx 2 cups), add to drained ribs and cook in crock pot for 5-6 hours on low. Remove from crock pot and brown ribs on grill or under broiler.

OH MY GOSH--these were the most incredible ribs I have ever tasted, in or out of a restaraunt! I followed other reviewers' advice and substituted bbq sauce for the ketchup, (2 cups) and ketchup for the chili sauce. (1 cup) I cut back on the vinegar to 2 1/2 Tbsp. just because I thought 4 Tbsp. was a lot. I also left out the hot sauce, simply because I didn't have any on hand. I used boneless Country Style Ribs. I couldn't get them out of the crock pot in one piece, they were soo tender! Thank you so much for this recipe, it is definitely one of the BEST on this site!!! I would HIGHLY reccommend trying this one! :)

I don't know why, but the slow cooker method did NOT work for me here. I set it in the morning before work for 6 hours on low, and my slow cooker automatically goes to "warm" until the food is ready to serve. This has worked for many other dishes, but when I got home after 9 hours, the sauce was burnt and the ribs were tough. Worst part was, I had guests over so I had to sprint to the grocery store to start over! I ended up boiling the second set of ribs for an hour in salted water and then baking them at 350 in the sauce first covered in foil for half an hour and then uncovered for another half an hour. The second round were fall-off-the-bone delicious. Also on the sauce- I followed others' suggestions and used 2 cups of BBQ sauce, 1 cup of sweet chili sauce, a generous "squirt" of Sriracha, vinegar, salt, pepper, and oregano. The sauce came out absolutely amazing. Hope this helps anyone who has a long work schedule.

I did not make the sauce but used Famous Dave’s and it was really good. I did 1 hour on high then 3 on low the then warm for a couple of hours until serving fall off the bone delis ribs. Will definitely use this method again, so easy

Used other suggestions and modified slightly. Added a 3/4 ave. size yellow onion finely chopped and 3-4 cloves of garlic finely chopped . And a couple of shakes of liquid smoke . I also only use 1 cup ketchup and 1 cup sweet baby rays BBG sauce instead of 2 cups ketchup. Also use red wine vinegar instead of vinegar. I taste test and if good I run with it. Have made these ribs and always a compliment and never an empty plate......so good!!!!

I made modifications to the original recipe and these came out amazing and perfect! I used most of the directions and ingredients with the exception of the following:I used a 4.5lb slab of pork spare ribs which I divided into 3 sections. (I didn’t see a membrane, or maybe I don’t know what it looks like, so I didn’t remove anything as suggested in the recipe.) For the sauce mixture I subbed Sweet Baby Ray’s hickory & brown sugar bbq sauce for the 2c ketchup, subbed ketchup for the 1c of chili sauce, and I used a whole cup of brown sugar instead of half. I forgot the dash of hot sauce but put in everything else suggested in the original recipe. For cooking I baked it as instructed, then I poured 1/3 of the sauce mixture on the bottom of the crock pot, placed one section of the slab down flat, poured some mixture on it, placed the other two slabs down flat on top of that and poured the rest of the mixture over it. About halfway through cooking, I stacked the slabs upright side by side and made sure all the meat was submerged in the sauce.

Here is my adjustments for 8 lbs of pork spare ribs: - 2 cups of ketchup - 1 cup of favorite bbq - 1 tablespoon of red pepper flakes - 2 tablespoon of Frank's Hot Sauce - 1/8 of cup of real Vermont maple syrup - 1 teaspoon of garlic powder - 3 full carrots & 1/4 onion sliced (lining bottom of slow cooker) - Follow all other ingredients in this recipe Cut into 1/4 racks, sprinkle meat tenderizer on both sides before browning in oven for 30 mins (15 mins on each side). Last, stack one 1/4 rack rib on top of carrots/onions, then stack remaining ribs on end making a circle along out edge of slow cooker and another circle of ribs in center Slow cook on High for 2hrs, then on low for 2hrs They were simply amazing!!!

I can’t give this five stars because of it missing a few basic steps. The membrane should be removed from the back of the ribs. I also added liquid smoke to emulate that grilled flavor. After preheating the oven, I broiled the ribs before cooking them in the slow cooker. The ambient heat plus the direct heat is a good combination. Like many suggested, I used my favorite prepared BBQ sauce instead of this ketchup mixture. End result was an incredible experience, loved by friends & family!

I also did not use all ketchup. I used 2 cups of Sweet Baby Rays, and 1 cup of ketchup. I did not have chili sauce so I added Challula hot sauce to the ketchup. I also added chili powder, garlic powder, and onion powder to taste. I only used 2 1/2 teaspoons of vinegar. This recipe was by far the best I've made, and the hubby absolutely loved it ❤️

THE RIBS TURNED OUT GREAT! The only changes were adding garlic powder and onion powder, and substituted BBQ sauce for ketchup. I was pressed for time so cooked on low for 3 hours then on high for 1 hour. Perfect!

This recipe is amazing! I used butt country style ribs instead of baby back ribs they are so moist and tender. I served it with Sweet Golden Cornbread and mashed pototatoes with mixed vegies on the side. Definitely a keeper.

Added a can of beer, and used a bottle of barbeque sauce from the store. Browning them in the oven at 400 degrees on both sides really boosts the flavor. 15 minutes a side gave me a perfectly browned surface.

I've made bbq ribs in my slow cooker for years and I really love the way they turn out. Late last summer I saw this recipe and thought why not? I've always used Baby Ray's bbq sauce - let's try something homemade. Exactly as written, this recipe is really, really good. Along side of sliced tomatoes, corn on the cobb and biscuits I'm in heaven! I came back on the site to reprint the recipe and was reading the reviews for hints or tweaks but some of these reviewers were completely re-writing the recipe - one even skipped the slow cooker!. I would prefer reviews that basically made this recipe.
