Buttermilk Fried Chicken Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 (3-pound) frying chicken, cut up
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
- 1 teaspoon celery seeds
- Vegetable oil for deep-frying
- 2 cups Kikkoman Tempura Batter Mix
Directions
Step 1: Wash the chicken pieces thoroughly and pat them dry with paper towels.
Step 2: In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, garlic powder, onion powder, poultry seasoning, and celery seeds. Stir well to ensure all the ingredients are evenly mixed.
Step 3: Add the chicken pieces into the buttermilk mixture, making sure the chicken is fully submerged. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight for optimal flavor.
Step 4: When you're ready to cook, heat vegetable oil in a large frying pan or wok to 325F (165C).
Step 5: Remove the chicken from the buttermilk mixture and let any excess liquid drain off in a colander.
Step 6: Place the Kikkoman Tempura Batter Mix into a large paper bag. Add the chicken pieces, then close the top of the bag and gently shake to coat the chicken with the batter evenly.
Step 7: Carefully remove the chicken from the bag and place it in the hot oil. Fry the chicken, turning the pieces every 3 minutes. Continue frying, turning occasionally, until the chicken is golden brown on all sides and fully cooked through.
