Mexican Taco Ring Recipe

Mexican Taco Ring Recipe

Cook Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients

This recipe was developed at its original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted, but cooking times and steps remain unchanged. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • cup water
  • 1 (1.25 ounce) package taco seasoning
  • 2 (8 ounce) cans refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 1 (8 ounce) package shredded Mexican cheese blend

Directions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir beef and onion in the hot skillet until beef is browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Drain and discard grease.
  2. Add water and taco seasoning to beef mixture; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until water is evaporated, 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375F (190C).
  4. Remove crescent roll dough from the packaging and separate into individual triangles.
  5. Arrange crescent roll triangles in a circle with the points facing outward on a pizza stone or pan.
  6. Spoon ground beef mixture into the center of each dough piece, creating a ring shape.
  7. Sprinkle cheese over the ground beef mixture.
  8. Fold crescent roll points toward the middle, sealing dough together.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven until dough is lightly browned, 11 to 13 minutes.

Not a fan of cooked onions, so I omitted those, otherwise I made it to the recipe. We are all quite fond of this recipe and it's even better with lettuce, salsa, and cheese dip on top. Or lettuce and panchos tropicale dressing. Yum.

Added some extra spices to the meat mixture; otherwise made as directed. Family inhaled it with lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole, salsa, and sour cream for garnish. Delish! I do recommend using parchment paper under the ring, and I covered the top once it was sufficiently brown so that the bottom could finish baking. That cured the issue some reported of the bottom being underdone and soggy. Total baking time was about 20 minutes.

Total hit!! My family and brother in law loved it! Even my son who has Ausbergers liked it! I did not bake the cheese in it. Instead I doubled the meat. Baked up awesome! I piled shredded iceberg lettuce in the center and then had condiments on the side: cheese, sour cream, fresh chopped tomatoes, sliced black olives and organic salsa. I am 100% positively making this again!

This was a great recipe! I used a pizza stone and had no difficulty with sogginess. We will be making this again, soon.

I mix an equal amount of riced cauliflower in with the meat. The kids don't notice and it makes me feel like it's not as unhealthy. ;-)

I tried this recipe and it was my first time attempting a taco ring and I loved it!! Some people say it didn’t have much flavor but with the toppings I used (sour cream, mild salsa, and lettuce) it was full of flavor! I portioned everything exactly and followed all directions and it turned out so yummy! I recommend to anyone especially to anyone trying it for the first time!

I use the entire package of taco seasoning. This was the SALTIEST thing I ever tasted in my life. It was disgusting. I still want to make it, but this time will cut way down on seasoning mix.

Perfect, I like how the cheese is stirred into the beef mixture, rather than sprinkled on top, believe it or not, it's less messy. I also typically cook the beef mixture with an onion, but no one notices when I don't. Made two so that there are lunches (or dinner) for tomorrow.

My family loved it! We used ground turkey to make it a little more healthy and it was delicious!

Made this many times. Love that I can change it up depending on what I have on hand. Tonight used Southwest seasoning and 1 cup salsa in the ground beef and it was yummy!

Pretty good i would recommend using more water than what was suggested or it’ll be dry

These were okay. We ate them. But I won't make them again. I much prefer tortilla chips or taco shells to the crescent rolls.

Big hit with the family. Even my daughter-in-law, who is a very picky eater and eats like a bird, went back for seconds AND thirds.

This actually turned out to be a lot better than I thought it would be. I was uncertain how it would taste with crescents in the place of tortillas. It was really good, filling, and fun to make with a cute presentation.
