Mock Filets Recipe

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

This recipe yields 6 servings.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • cup bread crumbs
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 6 slices bacon
  • cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • teaspoon dry mustard

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven's broiler.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the ground beef and bread crumbs.
  3. Add the beaten eggs, chopped onion, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
  4. Shape the mixture into 6 thick patties.
  5. Wrap a slice of bacon around the outside edge of each patty. Secure the bacon using a toothpick or kitchen string.
  6. Place the patties on a rack in a broiler pan or casserole dish, ensuring they are 5 inches from the heat source.
  7. Broil the patties for about 10 minutes, then remove them from the oven and flip each patty over.
  8. In a small bowl, mix together the ketchup, brown sugar, and dry mustard.
  9. Spoon the ketchup mixture generously over each patty.
  10. Return the patties to the broiler and cook for an additional 5 minutes, or until the meat is firm and no longer pink in the center.

I tried these for the first time last night and they were amazing! Before cooking, I always read reviews to get ideas on how to enhance a recipe. I modified the recipe by reducing the amount of Italian breadcrumbs to 1.2 cups per pound, adding Worcestershire sauce, a touch of Tobasco Chipotle, Adobo seasoning, fresh garlic, and a bit of Deli Mustard. I decided to mix all the ingredients, including the sauce ingredients, with the beef, wrapped it in bacon, and grilled it. It turned out excellent! Despite the sauce ingredients being added accidentally due to distractions from my kids, the end result was fantastic. I made 5 lbs of this using my Kitchen Aid mixer and now have 4 more meals ready to be cooked in the freezer. Highly recommend trying this recipe!

I prepared this dish tonight using ground venison and the outcome was fantastic! My husband recommended using a muffin pan, which turned out to be a great idea. It worked perfectly! Even my 3-year-old daughter enjoyed it.

This product is excellent! Being gluten-free, I use gluten-free rice Chex in a blender and turn it into bread crumbs. It works perfectly whenever a recipe requires bread crumbs. Enjoy!

I cooked the patties by frying them and then served them with a delicious gravy made with onions and wine. My family absolutely loved the meal.

A breeze to make and absolutely delicious! This recipe quickly became one of our go-to meals. I followed the instructions without any modifications and everything turned out perfectly. Definitely a 5-star dish!

This dish was enjoyable, but it tasted more like meatloaf than steak. We grilled the patties and I enhanced the flavor with a touch of Worcestershire sauce and garlic salt in the meat mixture.

These burgers were not terrible, but they were not outstanding either. They did not quite live up to the expectation of being "filet-like", just a decent bacon-wrapped burger.
