Baked Pork Chops with Sauerkraut Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 pork chops
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon oil, or as needed
- 1 (20-ounce) can sauerkraut, well drained
- 1 apple, peeled, cored, and diced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- cup brown sugar
- tablespoon caraway seeds
Directions
Step 1: Gather all the ingredients.
Step 2: Preheat the oven to 350F (175C). Grease a 2-quart casserole dish with a light coating of oil or butter.
Step 3: Season the pork chops with salt and pepper on both sides.
Step 4: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the pork chops for 5 to 7 minutes on each side until golden brown.
Step 5: Once browned, transfer the pork chops into the prepared casserole dish.
Step 6: In a separate bowl, combine sauerkraut, diced apple, chopped onion, brown sugar, and caraway seeds. Mix well.
Step 7: Spoon the sauerkraut mixture evenly over the pork chops, ensuring they are fully covered.
Step 8: Cover the casserole dish tightly with aluminum foil to retain moisture during baking.
Step 9: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 45 minutes, or until the pork chops are no longer pink in the center. An instant-read thermometer should read 145F (63C) when inserted into the center of the pork chop.
Cook's Note
This dish is perfect when served with mashed potatoes or buttered egg noodles to soak up the sauerkraut juices.

This recipe is absolutely delicious and very easy to make. The only thing that I did differently was that I put my onions sliced in rings over the top of the saurkraut. I served it over steamed jasmine rice. This is a new household favorite. Thanks for sharing.

I thought that it was absolutely delicious. I did caramelize the onion and also cut down on the caraway seeds a bit as I didn't want them to over power the flavor and I'm glad that I did. However, that's just a personal preference for each to decide. My partner thought it was fantastic also!

Loved this recipe . Sliced my onions and Put on top of the sauerkraut and chopped apples. Did not use caraway seeds because I'm not a fan of that flavor. Came out amazing and with so much great flavor. I will definitely make again!

Followed the directions as stated; however, I added some garlic and bite size potatoes to the recipe. A very easy recipe and it was delicious. I'd like to try adding dicd carrots next time. I'm making this again on Saturday.

I increased the caraway seed to 2 teaspoons, since I love this spice. Adding a little horseradish sauce on the side to dip the pork chop into makes a nice contrast to the sweet.

I made this exactly as the recipe says except I didn't have caraway seeds. This was so good I couldn't believe it! My husband went back for 2nd and 3rds!

This was super easy and full of flavor. Followed the directions exactly but the 45 minutes was just a bit too long. There were a few bites that were a bit dry. Will definitely make again but cook a little less.

I prefer my sauerkraut simply with added pimento and celery seed. I put Barbecue sauce on top of chops while they bake!!

I and my other half really enjoyed this recipe. I didn’t have any caraway seeds so I left them out; however it still have the right touch of sweetness and flavor! I followed the recipe but added touch of Montreal Chicken spice with the salt and pepper before browning the chops. This recipe is a keeper. Thank you
