Cabbage Steaks Recipe

Cook Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients

This recipe was designed for 6 servings. Ingredients adjust automatically with changes in serving size, but cooking times and methods remain the same. Keep in mind that not all recipes scale perfectly.

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons light olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic (adjust to taste)
  • teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • teaspoon ground black pepper (or to taste)

Directions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Gather all the ingredients you will need. Preheat your oven to 350F (175C) so it is ready when your cabbage is prepared.
  2. Slice the cabbage: Trim the bottom of the cabbage so it sits flat on your cutting board. Cut it into 1-inch thick slices for even roasting.
  3. Arrange the cabbage: Lay the slices in a single layer on a large sheet pan or casserole dish. Ensure the slices are spaced evenly for uniform cooking.
  4. Season and oil: Drizzle the olive oil over the cabbage slices. Sprinkle the minced garlic evenly on top, and season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Cover and bake: Cover the pan with aluminum foil to lock in moisture. Place it in the preheated oven and bake until the cabbage core is tender and easily pierced with a fork, approximately 45 minutes.
  6. Serve: Remove from the oven, uncover, and serve warm as a side dish or a simple healthy main course.

I loved it! I used a little butter too and put the oven to 375 for 45 minutes. It was perfect! I did make sure to cut the steaks at 1 inch so they would cook quicker. Definitely a do over!

I followed some suggestions and sprayed with olive oil, lots of minced garlic, then I used a brown sugar bourbon seasoning by McCormick and sprinkled with bacon pieces. Baked at 425 for 40 minutes. Delicious and a big hit with my dinner guests.

1. Quick Excellent. Sprayed the glass baking pan with avocado baking spray, sliced about 1/2” and brushed on the olive oil. Sprinkled garlic powder, salt and pepper. Was good, the kids and husband liked it too!

I baked mine covers in foil, at 425 for 25 min, and it was completely cooked with nice roasted surface and a few blackened outer rings. Perfect. So try a higher temp if you don't have an hour!

This is great! Due to diet limitations I only used ~ 1 tsp of oil, used Garlic Salt instead of freshly ground garlic and did not cover the pan. It did require 2 pans. And, I added a few cut baby potatoes. Hubs approved it! Will be making this again. Thanks!

I sliced mine about 1/2” . I followed the recipe except in regards to flavoring but in addition I also drizzled about a Tb total for 3 steaks I made on top of them as well as a little of seasoning called “Everything Bagel” I cooked them for 30 min. & the last 5 min I sprinkled w/ fresh Parmesan & cooked uncovered. These were so surprisingly good!

I will make this dish again. I didn't make any changes except I did have a small head of cabbage and I cut the steaks into smaller slices. It could have been less than a half inch. The cabbage was so small that it cooked a lot faster in just 25-minutes. I will try this again for my grand children and see what they think.

Super Simple and Super Flavor! This recipe made a cabbage believer out-of-me!! I used minced onion from a jar, and it worked perfectly. To get the most out of each steak I suggest flipping them over to serve as they are wonderfully charred!!!

Yes I did! I used salted Butter, seasoned both sides and wrapped steaks with a slice of bacon, added whole okra pieces. Covered the Glass dish with foil and baked for 45 minutes. on 350! It turned out perfect!

I did all according to recipe. After 45 mins, not done. Turned up to °375 for another 45 mins. Was mostly done, but still tough. Yes, I had it covered with foil. I put Mozzarella & sharp cheddar over them, with some Italian Seasoning & broiled for a few minutes until well melted. Lots of leftovers! :( So tonight I put them in a pan with .25" of beef broth & simmered on 4 (setting below Medium) on stove top, for about 20-30 mins/until beef broth was about gone, with a lid on it. PERFECT!! Tender, Juicy, Flavorful! And there's nothing wrong with my stove settings/temp; I checked with an independent oven thermometer. So idk why it took so long & still wasn't cooked through/tender! So it was disappointing, but I fixed it. Anyway, thanks for the idea, but think I'll use my way & improvise. I was starving & it took WAY too long, for a "meh" result. :/ Still love your recipes, though!! :)

Pretty tasty stuff. I followed the instructions exactly then topped my steak with some ahi which had marinated in sesame oil and soy sauce, gave it a squirt of lime, and it made a delicious and very filling lunch.

350 temp I knew was way too low. Preheated to 450 and put them on sheet pan. Did not cover. Seasoned with salt, pepper, zatar. Did not put foil or parchment paper on bottom. Took 45 min to bake. It was great.

I made mine in a toaster oven. At the end of the cook time, I uncovered it and turned on the broil setting until toasted (about 5 minutes). It was DELICIOUS!

The first time I made this, I found it to be rather tasteless. The second time, in addition to garlic, I added za'atar, some other Mediterranean seasonings, and ***really good*** olive oil. THAT was the ticket! The taste of the cabbage was enhanced by the different seasonings. Now, we can hardly wait for fresh cabbage from the farmers' market!
