Make-Ahead Garlic Toast Recipe

Garlic Bread Recipe

Servings: 18

Ingredients:

  • cup butter, softened
  • cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • teaspoon garlic powder
  • 18 thick slices Italian bread

Directions:

  1. In a bowl, combine butter, Parmesan cheese, dried parsley, and garlic powder. Mix until smooth and well-blended.
  2. Arrange the slices of Italian bread on a large baking sheet. Spread each slice with the seasoned butter mixture.
  3. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for about 1 hour, or until the bread slices are completely frozen.
  4. Once frozen, transfer the bread slices into a resealable plastic freezer bag. Store them in the freezer until you're ready to use them.
  5. When ready to prepare garlic toast, preheat your oven to 425F (220C).
  6. Arrange the desired number of frozen bread slices on a baking sheet, ensuring that the buttered side is facing up.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the bread is golden, toasted, and the butter has melted.

This surprized me that it actually worked. I had serious doubts but it was an incredible lifesaver for two reasons--I was able to salvage day old bread and make garlic bread ahead of time so that I could just throw it in the oven right as I needed it. I did up the garlic powder but other than that I kept the recipe the same. GREAT recipe.

This recipe is wonderful! It's simple, great for ANY type of bread, and best of all it's delicious! I made a little bit more of the "garlic butter mix" [omitted the dried parsley] and sprinkled a tiny bit of paprika into the mix. I used two (2) loaves of organic Take-N-Bake sourdough loaves, cut thick slices, spread a healthy layer of the garlic butter mix on one side of each slice. The slices were stacked staggered against each other, one loaf on each side of the baking sheet. 425 for 12-15 minutes. Then I "flipped" each loaf the opposite direction to make sure the slices were uniformly baked and baked an additional 8-10 minutes. FABULOUS!!

This recipe is so convenient and tasty! The ONLY thing I changed was the garlic powder. I crushed real garlic (about 2 Tbsp, as I ? garlic) in my mortar (which I use often for Puerto Rican recipes). Other than that, I loved it and my 4 yr old especially who is crazy about garlic bread! Thank you for the recipe! :-)

I hosted an Italian dinner for 40 people and wanted to have actual garlic toast to serve (versus heated up loaves of bread and butter), so made this ahead of time and froze it. It worked very well. Everyone seemed to like it (and some liked it A LOT -- coming back for seconds and thirds). My only complaint is that it was a bit salty. Next time I make this I will decrease the cheese to 1/4 cup, add a little more garlic, and use unsalted butter.

I used Pretzilla slider buns and they are amazing! Baked at 425 for 12-13 minutes. I keep a big bag in the freezer at all times!

The bread was very good. I only buttered one side before freezing it. Next time I make it, I will butter both sides. It's so nice to have a bag of garlic bread in the freezer whenever I want it.

My whole family LOVED this... made exactly as written but used Sam's Club ciabatta bread that we cut in half. So easy to make. Saved this recipe for sure!!

Didn't freeze, just made it for dinner. So easy and really, really good! A big hit with everyone!

I will make it this again minus the Parmesan cheese because to me it gave it a strange taste. I like using fresh garlic and some garlic salt but the idea of making it ahead and freezing it, is so awesome!!

Much better than buying it frozen from the grocery store. I've made it with garlic powder as well as with roasted garlic (recipe from this site as well). Was great both ways. :)

We were given a loaf of homemade Italian bread for our anniversary by the owner of a local Italian restaurant. I used this recipe so it would not go stale with just us two. My wife says it's the best garlic toast ever, much better than store bought. Good taste without being overpowering garlic flavor. I will definitely be making it again. Freezes well for later use.

I am going to do this more often! While I often have some loaf of bread on hand to whip up some concoction of toast to pair with dinner, this was SOOOO convenient and delicious! I purchased a French bread loaf, sliced into 1/2” slices and there was enough butter to spread a little over all except one butt of the bread. I did use fresh parsley as I needed to use it up but dried would work just fine. I also added 1/2 tsp of paprika to the butter mix before spreading. Once frozen, I returned the slices back to their original French loaf bag and wrote the baking instructions on the label so I could remember when came time to use. I have made as is and adding frozen cheese before baking. Both times, AWESOME! One less thing to prep on a weeknight! I highly suggest others try this! Thanks cook205!!

My sister-in-law introduced the Make-Ahead Garlic Toast recipe. This is the only garlic toast recipe I use... It's easy to make, freezes well and is always ready in a snap for dinner. It makes great grilled cheese sandwiches.

I use this recipe with left over/stale bread and end slices that I have collected in the freezer. Soooooo good!!

We were out of dried parsley so used Italian Seasoning instead... And it was a HIT. Don't think I've ever gotten as many compliments on anything else i made ... Ever!

Delicious and easy. I kinda winged it with measurements as I didn’t have a pound of bread, so I cut back ingredients. Very good and so easy. I was looking for something quick so I didn’t have time to freeze. It wasn’t necessary
