Soy and Honey Pork Chops Recipe

Soy and Honey Pork Chops Recipe

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Honey-Glazed Grilled Pork Chops with Caramelized Onions

Ingredients

This recipe was developed for 4 servings. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjustable, but cooking times and techniques remain the same.

  • cup honey
  • cup soy sauce
  • 1 pinch crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 pinch freshly ground black pepper, or to taste
  • 4 center-cut boneless pork chops, -inch thick
  • 2 teaspoons canola oil, or as needed
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 large sweet onion, sliced

Directions

Step 1: Preheat your outdoor grill to high heat and lightly oil the grate to prevent sticking.

Step 2: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, crushed red pepper flakes, and black pepper. Reserve 2 tablespoons of this mixture for brushing the chops later.

Step 3: Brush the pork chops on both sides with canola oil, then season with salt and black pepper.

Step 4: Place the pork chops over the hottest part of the grill. Cook for 4-5 minutes per side until lightly charred and a crust forms.

Step 5: Move the chops to a cooler section of the grill. Brush both sides generously with the honey-soy glaze and continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes, until the center is no longer pink and the juices run clear. The internal temperature should reach at least 145F (63C).

Step 6: While the pork chops finish cooking, brush the onion slices with oil and season with salt and black pepper. Grill the onions 3-4 minutes per side until they become translucent and slightly browned.

Step 7: Serve the pork chops alongside the grilled onions on warmed plates. Finish by brushing the reserved honey-soy glaze over the chops for extra flavor.

Cook's Note

To make this recipe kid-friendly, simply omit the crushed red pepper flakes.

I absolutely loved this recipe! Even though I don't have a grill, I decided to try it on the stovetop and it was fantastic. I seared the chops on high heat to get a nice browning on the outside, and then lowered the heat to let it simmer. After adding the glaze, I allowed it to cook for around 30 minutes, flipping the chops a total of 3 times. I sprinkled some sesame seeds for an extra punch of flavor! I believe this would also turn out wonderfully if baked in the oven.

I really liked this recipe! I had some leftover basting sauce, so I decided to use it on grilled sweet potatoes. I used a grilling wok sprayed with Pam, and sliced the sweet potatoes before brushing them with the sauce and placing them in the wok. I grilled them over medium heat until they were tender, stirring occasionally. It turned out delicious!

I absolutely loved this recipe! I made a few tweaks by using chili flakes instead of red pepper flakes, and baking the dish in the oven instead of grilling it. I basted the dish before baking at 375 degrees for 45 minutes, then again 15 minutes before taking it out, and once more before serving. The result was incredibly juicy and tender, falling apart with every bite. Surprisingly, even my finicky brother enjoyed it! I'm already thinking of trying this recipe with chicken next time.

I cooked 1-inch thick center cut pork chops using a reverse sear method in the pan, followed by 30 minutes in the oven at 400 degrees. The result was incredible!

I cooked it on the stovetop and it came out fantastic. I suggest using more than 1 onion as they were absolutely delicious - definitely the highlight of the dish for me. Surprisingly, even my picky eaters (kids) loved it.

I would like to review the foundation of this recipe, as I usually don't strictly adhere to recipes. I incorporated two additional ingredients that elevated the dish significantly. By adding 1 teaspoon of lime juice and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, the flavors became exceptional. This recipe is ideal for those new to BBQ cooking. Thank you for sharing it; everyone here thoroughly enjoyed it, and my husband specifically requested that I make it again.

I had high hopes for this recipe, but it turned out to be a disaster. I believe my mistake was not using a cast-iron skillet for cooking. The pan ended up charred, along with the meat on the first side I cooked. The other side of the meat avoided charring, probably because of the burnt residue stuck to the bottom of the pan. I had to constantly watch and prevent the meat from sticking, unlike the first time when I started simmering. The burnt smell filled my kitchen, making me feel embarrassed even though no one was around. Overall, this was a major letdown. Unless you have a grill, I recommend skipping this recipe and choosing one that's meant for stovetop cooking.

I absolutely adored this dish. I prepared it in a skillet, sautéed the onions separately, and placed the pork chops on top of them. The result was simply delicious!

I started by cooking on the stove until I saw a hint of color, then transferred it to the oven to finish baking before pouring the mixture over the top.

High in sodium, but extremely tasty. I definitely recommend it. I reduced the amount of soy sauce and honey when preparing it, but it turned out to be a delicious and flavorful dish.
