Spaghetti a la Philly Recipe

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

This recipe was developed at its original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted, but cooking times and steps remain unchanged. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly.

Original recipe (1X) yields 4 servings:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 (24 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce
  • 4 ounces PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, cubed
  • 8 ounces spaghetti, cooked and drained
  • 2 tablespoons KRAFT Grated Parmesan Cheese

Directions

  1. Cook the spaghetti as directed on the package. Set aside when done.
  2. Meanwhile, heat a large skillet over medium heat and brown the ground beef. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  3. Once the beef is browned, stir in the spaghetti sauce and cream cheese. Lower the heat and cook for an additional 3 to 5 minutes, stirring frequently until the sauce is well blended and heated through.
  4. Drain the cooked spaghetti and add it to the skillet with the sauce. Gently toss to combine, ensuring the pasta is well coated with the sauce.
  5. Transfer the pasta and sauce mixture to a serving platter. Top with the grated Parmesan cheese before serving.

Special Extra

For added flavor, you can saut 1 cup each of chopped bell peppers and onions with the ground beef. Before serving, sprinkle with fresh basil or parsley for a burst of freshness.

Variation

For a lighter option, prepare the recipe using PHILADELPHIA Neufchatel Cheese instead of the regular cream cheese.

I made a delicious sauce by using a large jar of sauce and 8 oz of cream cheese. I cooked the pasta in broth and butter, and added a touch of cinnamon to enhance the flavor. I also opted for brown sugar instead of white. The dish turned out incredibly tasty!

I have been making a similar dish for years. The cream cheese gives it a wonderfully creamy texture. My twist on the recipe is using ground mild Italian sausage instead of ground beef. While spaghetti is great, I personally prefer serving it with penne pasta - just as delicious!

Review: I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious this dish turned out with just a few simple ingredients. I opted not to use ground beef, as I felt it wouldn't complement the flavors well. It's a great way to elevate a jar of sauce, although I believe adding fresh herbs or crushed red pepper would take it to the next level. Personally, I enjoyed it, but my boyfriend, who prefers a simpler garlic and oil pasta, wasn't as enthused. I topped it with grated parmesan and fresh basil, which enhanced the dish. Despite its simplicity, it reminded me of a creamy rose or vodka sauce, minus the vodka. The sauce thickened nicely, giving it a satisfying consistency. I would definitely make this again and experiment with different herbs next time. :)

I absolutely adore this recipe! It had been years since I last made it, but rediscovering it was such a delight. One time, I had to improvise with cream cheese when I ran out of heavy cream, and we fell in love with the unique tang it added. However, it's important to note that the tanginess from the cream cheese and any particularly acidic sauce can sometimes become overpowering, leading to a sour taste. So, make sure to taste the sauce before serving and adjust with a bit of sugar or baking soda if needed. Thanks for such a fantastic recipe!

We absolutely love this product. I enjoy enhancing it with additional seasonings because store-bought spaghetti sauce always lacks the flavor our family prefers. I usually add salt, pepper, garlic powder, and dried basil to elevate the taste. Occasionally, I like to switch things up by making meatballs instead of incorporating ground meat into the sauce. I prepare the meatballs with ground beef, the mentioned seasonings, onions, and an egg. It's a simple and quick recipe that never disappoints!

The dish was initially bland, but with some adjustments, it turned out delicious. I enhanced the flavor by adding salt, pepper, crushed red pepper, garlic, onion, and Better Than Bouillon Beef Base, creating a deeper and richer taste profile.

Adored how simple it was to prepare this dish. I followed the suggestion to include onions and bell peppers, which added a nice touch. The cream cheese was the hidden gem, giving it a rich and creamy taste. I ended up making a double batch, providing me with two delicious meals. Done and satisfied!
