I believe the individuals who altered the recipe are not Italian. American "ITALIAN" recipes can be overly heavy with garlic and oregano at times. Oregano belongs on pizza, not in everything. Follow the chef's original recipe but omit the oregano. Use Sweet Basil instead and you'll appreciate the change. It's important to have enough broth to coat the pasta properly. Take my word for it.

I followed the advice to use half the amount of broth suggested and skipped pureeing the tomatoes - just smashed them once they were soft. I also included some roasted red peppers from a jar. I used Gruyere instead of parmesan and it worked perfectly. No complaints at all about this substitution.
