Instant Chocolate Hard Shell Recipe

Instant Chocolate Hard Shell Recipe

Cook Time: 1 minute

Chocolate Shell for Ice Cream

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • cup coconut oil

Directions:

  1. Combine the chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl.
  2. Heat the mixture in the microwave in 30-second intervals. Stir well each time until smooth, which will take about 1-2 minutes.
  3. After the mixture has fully combined, let it cool slightly and store it in an airtight at room temperature.

Recipe Tips:

  • Feel free to use any oil that is neutral in flavor or complements chocolate. Canola or soybean oils work fine, but coconut oil enhances the flavor and adds a slightly crunchy texture.
  • If you prefer a thinner, crispier shell, add more oil. For a thicker coating, reduce the amount of oil.

YUM, I tried a peanut butter version of this from Pinterest and misplaced the recipe. I had to try this one when I found it. I made 1/4 of the recipe or about 4 servings. So, the full recipe is about half the servings suggested. That amount was equivalent to 1/2 cup choc chips and 2 Tblsp + 1 1/2 tsp of coconut oil. I used Ghiradelli mini choc chips, from the freezer, and it took 1 minute to melt stirring half way through. I tried it on top of Edys 1/2 the fat vanilla bean ice cream. It set up very quickly. It doesnt crack, but it does solidify. I cant imagine why anyone would buy the stuff in a bottle with the ease and taste of this. Edit Note: I didn't store it at room temperature as suggested. I put it in the fridge. To re-melt it, I put it back in the microwave for 1 minute stirring half way through. As it wasn't as warm as when just made it did actually crack into a few pieces, after it set for a minute or so, if that is desired.

I love it. I use mine as a drip on my cake and also sprayed parchment paper with cooking oil, drizzled the chocolate and froze it. I placed the pieces on top of my cake.

A dream come true! Thank you so much for submitting this amazing recipe. Magic Shell was a childhood favorite of mine. I had bought some a couple years ago and it was so difficult to get out of the bottle I gave up on ever thinking it could be a possibility again. I quartered the recipe which gave us just enough for 3 servings. 1/2 c. Chocolate Chips, 1/2 of a 1/3 c coconut oil. (Specifically-filled a 1/3 measuring cup halfway). Took under 3 mins of my time and was a perfect shell!

I wish I could respond to other reviews lol. If your chocolate turned out grainy, it’s because you burned it in the microwave. Anyways, I halved the recipe & used it to top my overnight oats. It’s really good. 5 stars.

I used the recipe I got from Americas test kitchen, which added vanilla and espresso powder, came out perfectly

This is FANTASTIC! I have now tried two variations. One where I spin 1/4 c of walnuts in the food processor until just more than fine and the same thing with hazelnuts. Stirring in these at the very end gave an AMAZING flavor. Simply put over vanilla (cheapo type from Costco) ice cream! P. S. I have learned that making a decision milkshake until fully blended and the adding this special sauce as the blender is on low creates a super special treat!

You can make your own version by switching up the kind of chips you use.

I used 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips, 8 teaspoons of safflower oil and a small pinch of table salt. Fantastic!

I made this from vanilla chips and coconut oil and it was delicious. I love the store bought hard shell but don't like the limited flavors or how it sticks to the inside of the plastic bottle as it ages. I stored this in a mason jar inside my pantry and it lasted days without solidifying. Next stop: milk chocolate.

It was reallly watery but I think it was because there was too much coconut oil and I might have used a little less c. Chips than I should have and all the c. Chips were at the bottom of the bowl! Did this happen to anyone? Thumbs up if it did

I loved this recipe for the chocolate shell. I made it using milk chocolate chips and with semi sweet chips. They both came out great.

Made it for my 7 year old. Used dark chocolate sweetened with Stevia. Added a few drops of liquid Stevia. Incredible! My son couldn't stop eating it on his French Vanilla ice cream.
