Caramel Pretzel Brownies Recipe

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Caramel Fudge Brownies with Pretzels and Toffee

This delicious dessert combines rich fudge brownies, gooey caramel, crunchy pretzels, and sweet toffee bits. It's perfect for sharing at parties or enjoying with a cup of coffee!

Ingredients

  • 1 (14 ounce) bag individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped, divided
  • 1 (18.3 ounce) package fudge brownie mix (such as Betty Crocker)
  • cup vegetable oil
  • cup water
  • 2 large eggs
  • cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 cup chopped pretzels
  • cup chocolate chips
  • cup chocolate-covered toffee bits

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350F (175C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish to ensure the brownies come out easily.
  2. Unwrap 9 caramels and cut them in half. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the brownie mix, vegetable oil, water, and eggs. Beat together until well combined.
  4. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom.
  5. Press the 9 caramel halves into the batter, placing three rows of 3 halves, ensuring that each brownie will have a caramel center when baked.
  6. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the brownies comes out almost clean.
  7. Once the brownies are done, remove them from the oven. While they cool slightly, prepare the caramel topping.
  8. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the remaining unwrapped caramels, unsalted butter, and milk. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the mixture is melted and smooth, about 1 to 3 minutes, depending on your microwave.
  9. Pour the warm caramel mixture over the slightly cooled brownies.
  10. Evenly scatter the chopped pretzels, chocolate chips, and toffee bits over the top of the caramel layer.
  11. Allow the brownies to cool for 20 minutes before cutting into 18 squares. This gives the caramel time to set.

Turned out fabulous. I didn't have any chocolate chips so I used leftover Christmas candy (chopped in a food processor). I also used caramel topping instead of caramels.

So good, even though I stuck with just the caramel and pretzel topping. The additional caramels inside and toffee bits on top, would have been way too sweet. I kept an additional box of brownies on hand, and used the rest of the caramels on a second batch. We preferred it drizzled on top, not as a thick icing so I adjusted the caramel portion in half.

These was so delish! I left off the toffee chips because the BF don't like toffee I also added the chocolate chips to the batter instead of the caramels. I tend to have a bad issues with them always ending up on the bottom of the pan. Then scrapping them out and having holes in the bottom of the brownies. Now this may not happen just letting you know why I swapped the chocolate chips for the caramels on top before baking. Then added a extra drizzle of caramel on top with the pretzels. I will be making these again!

I made these for a church event, and they were a big hit. They turned out more like fudge than brownies, probably because I used caramel ice cream topping instead of unwrapping caramel candies. I didn't have any toffee bits, and didn't miss them. In fact, I think they might have been too sweet if I'd used them.

Happy decadence! Have to send to hubby's office to save myself. Made half caramel topping, sweet enough. Would not put caramel pieces in brownie batter next time.

This is legit one of the best things I’ve cooked in months.

Very disappointed. Followed directions exactly, and what a mistake. The picture shows drizzle of caramel & some pretzels & light drizzle of choc chips. When using the amount it calls for of caramel, it covered the entire top of brownie. The pieces you cut in half don't melt either. My pretzel & choc chip on the top covered the whole 9x13 pan also. Even my hubby thought it was bad & he loves brownies. This was to be another addition to the plates of goodies I was going to give to people in our apartment building for Christmas, but can't do that now. This wasn't cheap either to purchase all the ingredients for it.

It was delicious! Make sure the caramel is very thin though.

Oh man, are these yummy and rich! A little difficult to cut into squares with the caramel cooked in and I am thinking it doesn't need it with the caramel topping. The combination of salty and sweet is divine. Even my husband loved them and he is typically not a dessert kind of guy.

OMG! These were amazing!! I ended up incorporating mini chocolate chips into the batter before baking instead of on top as directed - only because I misread the recipe. Will definitely make again and again. Thank you for the recipe.
