Pecan Pie Brownies Recipe

Pecan Pie Brownies Recipe

Cook Time: 60 minutes

Ingredients

This recipe was developed at its original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted, but cooking times and steps remain unchanged. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly.

Original recipe (1X) yields 16 servings.

For the Brownie Layer:

  • Cooking spray
  • 1 (18 ounce) package fudge brownie mix (such as Duncan Hines)
  • cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • cup water

For the Pecan Pie Layer:

  • cup brown sugar
  • cup light corn syrup
  • 1 tablespoon bourbon (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • teaspoon sea salt
  • cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 2 cups pecan halves

Directions

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350F (175C). Line a deep 9-inch springform pan with aluminum foil and generously coat with cooking spray.

Step 2: To make the brownie layer, whisk together the brownie mix, vegetable oil, eggs, and water in a bowl until well combined. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.

Step 3: Bake the brownie layer in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven, but leave the oven on for the next step.

Step 4: To make the pecan pie layer, whisk together the brown sugar, corn syrup, bourbon (if using), vanilla extract, and sea salt in a separate bowl. Slowly add the melted butter, whisking until fully incorporated.

Step 5: Stir in the pecan halves, ensuring they are evenly coated in the filling mixture.

Step 6: Pour the pecan pie filling gently over the brownie layer. Spread it evenly with a spatula.

Step 7: Bake the assembled layers in the hot oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the center is set. The pie should not jiggle when lightly tapped.

Step 8: Let the dessert cool to room temperature for at least 2 hours before serving. For quicker cooling, place in the refrigerator for a shorter time.

Cook's Note

Honey can be substituted for corn syrup, and either light or dark brown sugar can be used. If using a different brand of brownie mix, follow the specific instructions on the box.

This was a big hit with our Life Group. Cooking times need to be a little longer. Gooey goodness. Would use coarsely chopped of pecans next time.

I have now made this 5 or 6 times. It is one of my favorite "wow" desserts. I use Hershey's Triple Chocolate Brownie Mix from Sam's for the brownie -- awesome in itself. Note: if you have a non-stick spring-form pan you do NOT have to use the aluminum foil. The baked brownie is VERY strong and malleable. Run a knife around the edge and the spring-form comes right off. Flip the brownie over on to some parchment paper and start running a rounded knife around the pan base and it will come right off also.

So rich and delicious. Small pieces are plenty. I used maple syrup instead of Caro in pecan mixture, for just a little more flavor. Elegant-looking with whipped cream as a dinner party dessert.

Wow! Were these ever delicious brownies! I used pecan pieces instead of halves, and had to bake them in a small rectangular pan, but they were extraordinarily good. I’ll be making these a lot, especially at the holidays!
