Baked Apples Recipe

Cook Time: 40 minutes

Cozy up with baked apples for a comforting dessert. Here's a step-by-step guide to preparing this easy and delicious treat.

Ingredients

  • 4 apples, such as Golden Delicious or Honeycrisp
  • cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, cut into 4 pieces
  • Boiling water

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350F (175C).

Step 2: Using an apple corer, melon baller, or a teaspoon, carefully remove the core from the top of each apple, making sure to leave about 1 inches at the bottom to form a well. Do not hollow out the bottom completely.

Step 3: In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt until evenly combined.

Step 4: Stuff each apple with about 2 tablespoons of the sugar mixture, packing it in gently.

Step 5: Arrange the stuffed apples in an 8-inch square baking dish. Place a piece of butter on top of each apple, then pour boiling water into the bottom of the dish, about -inch deep.

Step 6: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.

Step 7: After 20 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for another 20-25 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the sugar has caramelized. To check, pierce an apple with a paring knife; it should go through easily.

Step 8: Once the apples are tender, remove them from the oven and serve warm. Enjoy!

Serving Tip

These baked apples are perfect on their own, but if you're in the mood for something extra indulgent, serve them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

How to Store Baked Apples

If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight in the refrigerator for up to four days. When you're ready to enjoy them again, reheat gently in the oven.

I love making these. I was in a hurry, so I just popped ours in the microwave for about 5 minutes and I also added raisins. They turned out so good, and the smell alone is enough to make your mouth water.

we added raisins and I discovered that a melon baller tool worked great to cut and scoop out the core ! They were not done at 20 minutes... I used the turkey baster and added 20 more minutes they smell wonderful !

Okay, guys, be prepared! I have a long list of additions and substitutions for this recipe! It's a good traditional recipe that you can't go wrong with, but these additions make it a whole lot better! 1) Coat the bottom of your pan with a little bit of water, about 1 Tablespoon cornstarch, and 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. 2) Core your apples all the way, and stick a prune in the bottom. (it may sound gross, but it's really healthy and tastes really good with the apple.) 3) push some chopped walnuts down the middle of your apples. 4) Mix the butter and the brown sugar together first, and then fill up the spaces in the middle of your apples and spread it on the sides. With all these corrections, this is my go-to recipe for apples.

Made these this evening & everyone loved them. The only thing I changed was reducing the amount of butter to closer to a tsp per apple. I mixed the brown sugar & butter before filling the apples, added a small amount of water to the bottom of the pan & baked approximately 25 minutes (6 apples). Absolutely delicious!

I only had one apple so I sliced it, put it in a glass bowl, added 2 tblsp brown sugar, 1 tblsp butter and a dash of cinnamon. Then popped it in the microwave for 3 minutes, stirring halfway through. It turned out great!!

This recipe is so easy and so yummy! My family loved it. The only changes I made was to use some HoneyCrisp Apples I had on hand and since we live in the High Desert area of Colorado I had to add cooking time to make them tender enough for all my family members. I ended up cooking them for 25 min but they came out so tender and so yummy. My family has requested that I make them again. Thank you so much for your recipe!

Loved it! I used 2 gala apples and 2 golden delicious. They were both very good. I found it easier to melt the butter, mix it with the brown sugar and then stuff into the apples. I did add a small amount of water to the bottom of the pan as others suggested. Not sure if it helped or not. I would also recommend baking for 25-30 minutes. I served as a side dish to roasted chicken. It was great!

The best part a step that one would be surprised at : By not coring the apple all the way through, so that the ingredients would be absorbed into the apple itself. Ps: cook them a tad longer if you keep the skins on

Turned out great with some adjustments. I added some pecans, cut the butter to 1 teaspoon each apple, added water to pan with vanilla and cinnamon in it and cooked for at least an hour. My apples were big so maybe that's why they took so long but in no way would even a small apple be done in 15 minutes. That is why I've taken away one star.

I followed the suggestion of other reviewers and cooked them in water with vanilla. They were tasty by themselves but very delicious with caramel sauce and ice cream. If you want a somewhat healthy dessert you can eliminate the caramel sauce and ice cream and it is still a very good dessert and easy to make. I will definitely make this again!

These were pretty good with a couple modifications. 10 mins. wasn’t nearly long enough in the oven. I baked mine about a half hour to get the apples softer. I also add a few whole cranberries with the brown sugar and butter.

I whipped this up after a long day, and it was exactly what I needed. Quick, comforting, and delicious — everything came together with minimal effort. The flavors were spot-on, and it tasted like it took hours to make. I’ll definitely be making this again soon.

These were VERY tasty! I used Macintosh apples and served with a small scoop of ice cream. Tastes like apple pie without the crust.

Tried it but didn’t really work out. Will try again. Also, what is kosher salt?

So delicious!! I used large granny Smith apples, I eyeballed the measurements, accidently cooked them a little too long (skin slid itself off) but they were still super yummy!

It is really good! I used stick butter and the butter was not melted by the time the 15 minutes was up so I put it in for 3 more and then in the microwave for 2 more. Then it melted. But it is really good!
