Hasty Chocolate Pudding Recipe

Hasty Chocolate Pudding Recipe

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients (4 servings):

  • cup white sugar
  • cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, and cornstarch.
  2. Slowly whisk in the milk, a little at a time, ensuring no dry lumps remain in the mixture.
  3. Place the bowl in the microwave and cook on high for 3 minutes. Stir well.
  4. Continue to cook and stir the mixture at 1-minute intervals until it becomes shiny and thick, about 2 to 4 minutes.
  5. Once thickened, stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. To prevent a skin from forming on the pudding, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the pudding.
  7. Refrigerate the pudding to chill for at least an hour.
  8. Serve cold and enjoy!

Way better than premade pudding mixes and nearly as quick to prepare. The taste is exceptional. If you're out of cornstarch, using an equal quantity of either all-purpose or whole wheat flour works just as well. I've even swapped out vanilla extract for 2 teaspoons of bourbon for an extra flavor boost. For a lighter, more mousse-like dessert, let the pudding cool in the fridge for a few hours and then gently mix in a carton of thawed Cool Whip. This turned out to be just as delicious, if not better, than chocolate mousse from fancy restaurants!

I added a bit of salt to the dry ingredients. I prepared mine on the stovetop, which made the process very straightforward. It only took a few minutes to reach a boil over medium heat, with constant stirring. After letting it gently boil for about a minute, I added vanilla and then poured the mixture into serving dishes. For the next batch, I plan to add butter at the end and reduce the cocoa powder to just 1/4 cup for a subtler chocolate flavor, as that's our preference.

I prepared this dish on the stovetop using a nonstick pan, stirring constantly over medium-high heat until it came to a boil and thickened. After chilling it in the fridge for 40 minutes, I served it warm. My family absolutely loved it, and I plan on making it again for sure. It would also be delicious drizzled warm or cold over a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Highly recommend!

In my 1250 watt microwave, I found that following an initial 3-minute cooking interval, I only needed one additional 1-minute session. This not only shortened the overall recipe time but also prevented any boiling over. Adding a touch of butter and salt after cooking, as recommended by others, enhanced the flavor. I agree with the majority that this recipe is a definite keeper - it's quick, effortless, and incredibly tasty! Who needs boxed pudding anymore when you have this gem of a recipe?

Absolutely delicious! This completely fulfilled my cravings quickly. I included 2 teaspoons of butter and a touch of salt, then warmed it on the stovetop instead. My family and I devoured it while it was still warm -- it was irresistible! Thanks for sharing your recipe.

Absolutely easy to prepare. I reduced the amount of sugar by half for a richer dark chocolate taste, and it worked perfectly. Delicious and velvety! (I opted for oat milk) Thank you for a simple yet tasty pudding. The best part is being fully aware of the ingredients. A solid 5-star rating from me.

Initially, when I attempted to prepare the recipe in the microwave, it resulted in the mixture exploding and spilling over the cup. Despite the mishap, the remaining concoction still tasted good. I decided to repurpose my modified measurements of cocoa powder and sugar by using them to make hot chocolate in the morning. After conducting some research, I discovered that I had not thoroughly mixed the white sugar, cocoa powder, and cornstarch into the milk. Consequently, I opted to try the recipe on the stovetop instead. It turned out wonderfully! I simply had to continue stirring until it reached a boil and thickened enough to coat the spoon. In the end, the hot chocolate turned out to be delicious and perfectly sweet.

This recipe truly lives up to its promise: a speedy dessert that doesn't require a stove. By faithfully following the instructions, you can expect a delicious dessert with a 3 or 4-star rating in terms of taste and texture. To achieve a smoother consistency, consider adding 1 or 2 tablespoons of butter. For a richer chocolate flavor, incorporate a small handful of Ghiradelli bittersweet chocolate chips.

This recipe is simple and wonderful, but it could benefit from either reducing the amount of cocoa or increasing the amount of sugar!

I found this to be a quicker and simpler alternative to preparing stovetop pudding. It has a delightful milk chocolate flavor and a satisfyingly thick texture. Although it lacks the creamy richness of traditional slow-cooked pudding, the ingredients are almost the same. The only elements absent from this recipe compared to my usual version are a touch of butter and a hint of salt. I plan to include both in my next attempt, as this method is much more convenient and faster than the traditional approach. Overall, it tastes delicious.

Super speedy and delicious. We enjoyed it best when it was warm, and a sprinkle of salt really enhances the flavors beautifully.
