This dish was fantastic! I followed the recipe as instructed, but I did soak the banana slices in acidulated water to keep them from browning. Instead of placing whole cookies on top, I opted to sprinkle crushed vanilla wafers for a better presentation. My husband, a big fan of anything banana-flavored, devoured the whole thing!

I modified the recipe by reducing the amount of milk to 1 1/2 cups, using 1 cup of frozen whipped topping, and 1 cup of sour cream. I combined vanilla pudding with milk for 2 minutes, then added sour cream, whipped topping, and mixed in bananas until everything was the same color. The bananas remained solid. I incorporated 24 vanilla wafers into the mixture and ensured they were well blended. I lined a Pyrex deep casserole dish with the wafers and poured the banana-pudding mix in. After refrigerating for 3 to 4 hours, the dessert had a more solid pudding consistency. A similar recipe can be found on a grocery store's brand box of vanilla wafers, but these tweaks improved the final texture.

I have been using this recipe for many years now and it's always a hit with everyone. I usually have to make a large batch because it goes fast. I tend to adjust the ingredients based on taste, but here's a rough guideline for a larger serving: use 4 containers of Cool Whip, almost the entire 16 oz of sour cream, a splash of vanilla extract, one and a half packages of French vanilla instant pudding mix, just half a cup of milk, 5 bananas, and 3 bags of Pepperidge Farm Chessman cookies for better flavor. Start by layering the cookies at the bottom, then alternate layers of cookies, pudding, bananas, and repeat. Finish by crumbling some cookies on top. And that's it! I hope this is helpful.

Absolutely delicious! Create your own whipped cream instead of using store-bought, and delicately mix half of it into the mixture before topping it off with the remaining cream. Don't forget to sprinkle small pieces of chocolate truffles on top. Chocolate and bananas – a match made in heaven!

The only change I made was substituting 2% milk for whole milk.

I've been making this pudding recipe for over 20 years, and it never fails to impress a crowd at gatherings. For a delicious twist, try adding about a cup and a half of juicy ripe sliced strawberries - it takes it to a whole new level of deliciousness! It's fantastic!

I really enjoy this recipe, however, I opted to make my own whipped cream instead of using the whipped topping.
