Ingredients
This recipe was developed at its original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted, but cooking times and steps remain unchanged. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly.
- 4 medium apples
- 1 cup rolled oats
- cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
Directions
- Gather all ingredients.
- Preheat the oven to 350F (175C).
- Core each apple, making a large well in the center. Place the apples onto a rimmed baking sheet.
- In a bowl, mix the oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon together. Cut in the butter until the mixture is well combined.
- Spoon one-fourth of the oat mixture into each apple, filling the well.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the filling is bubbling.
Recipe Tip
If you don't use a rimmed baking sheet, butter will spill in the oven.

Great way to make baked apples even better! I was trying to avoid adding extra sugar so I used sugar free instant oatmeal packets. One was Apple Cinnamon and the other was Maple & Brown Sugar. Each packet had 1/2 cup of oats and I just added the teaspoon of cinnamon to them before adding the butter. Also, I cooked these in a loaf pan so that they would sit up and not fall over on a cookie sheet.

This gets 2 thumbs up from us. I used gala apples and added some chopped pecans, a little more butter and a few tablespoons of maple syrup. They came out with a fantastic carmel apple taste. This was a perfect thing to make to welcome September. It made the whole house smell amazing! I might eat one for breakfast tomorrow with a little vanilla yogurt.

I was looking for a high fiber dessert and this one works. I used a snacking apple, and I’m sure a Granny Smith or golden delicious apple would have cooked more tender. Halved one apple for hubby and me and it was plenty with a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a dab of caramel sauce on top. I added a dash of allspice and cinnamon to the oats. Great flavor. I used quick oats, not instant. I used my toaster oven so I didn’t heat the kitchen unbearably.

A great way to sweeten and flavor apples with a delicious oatmeal filling, like a mini Brown Betty apple pie. I melted the butter before mixing it in with the other ingredients. I used the oatmeal mixture to fill six Honey Crisp apples and baked them for 50 minutes on a cookie sheet lined with foil.

This recipe is nice and simple yielding delicious results. I reduced the sugar to 3 TBS. and added 1 TBS of maple syrup, also cut the apples in half and 5 minutes to baking time.

These were delicious. As others mentioned, I baked them probably twice as long until they were as soft as I wanted. I used 7 Gala apples and had way more topping than could be stuffed into them, so I just piled it around apples. Delicious! FYI: I had the bright idea of grating my butter into the oats, which gave it a more consistent ratio of oats to butter and eliminated the aggravating (to me) need to use a pastry blender. I used a fork to mix it in.

Excellent recipe and hints. Made with our own apples, added syrup after finished. Loved the idea of vanilla or almond extract. I did cut apples in half to heap the oatmeal mixture on it, worked well. Also, lined ramiken bowls with foil to cook.

This was a bad recipe. I'm not sure why everyone is saying how awesome it is. The oats are dry and crunchy. The apples do not cook at 30 minutes. This was not a good recipe. I had to cook the apples to 50 minutes and they still were not done. How do the oats dissolve in anything if no water is added. Maybe cook the oats separately on the stove so, that you have smooth oatmeal, add it to the apples and then cook and then cook for 45 minutes.

I decreased the recipe, as I was making it for one. Also, microwaved for 4 min 45 sec instead of baking. It was delicious, and just right.

I added a little bit of pumpkin pie spice into the oatmeal filling, and I had to carve 2 more apples cuz I had extra filling. But they turned out great! Had to cook them for at least an hour more than called for but they were moist and the filling was amazing! I but a chunk of butter on top of the apples so the butter would moisten the filling a little bit more because the filling was a bit dry but it was good. Will make this recipe again soon. Filled the entire house with apple pie aroma!

Thank you. What a wonderful easy to make with big taste to enjoy. It was a lovely fall treat and now I can't wait until breakfast. I did make some changes and thought I would share. I added a bit more cinnamon, a little less sugar and then added the apple that I took out when making the well to the oatmeal mix. Thank you again.

Apple-ly delicious. I hate to waste food. However this recipe was a great feature but I added different ingredients. Such as, I used Honey nut with almonds cereal, half the sugar, and placed honey on top. I added walnuts, and allspice. I may have cooked it too long, but everything was fine. Thank you. Delicious.

I also chopped up some pecans to mix in the oatmeal/butter concoction. Very good

This is the 3rd time I've baked this since September, and always a great result. I use only Granny Smith apples add a touch more cinnamon, otherwise this recipe works for me. I always tent some foil over my baking dish so the apples cook neither too much, nor do they burn. Thank you for this delicious recipe!

I used Pink Lady apples which are delicious raw. , tangy and sweet. I ended up with slightly bitter applesauce that I scraped from the apple skins. I made big holes and used all the stuffing. I ate it without pleasure. One of my guests basely touched it and the other struggled through half of it , asking for whipped cream which I didn't have. I wish I had just served raw apple slices. I ate it

Easy to make. Great taste, sweet enough but not too filling. I made with Ruby Frost apples and was really good. Made a second time but slices apples and sprinkled topping over before baking. Delish!
