Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cups superfine sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar
  • 1 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350F (175C). Grease and flour a 2-liter baba pan or a 9-inch Bundt pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine eggs, vegetable oil, superfine sugar, and vanilla sugar. Beat at high speed for approximately 5 minutes until the mixture is smooth and fluffy.
  3. Gently fold in the self-rising flour until fully incorporated. Reserve about 1/4 cup of the batter and set aside for later.
  4. Pour the remaining batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
  5. Add the cocoa powder to the reserved batter, mixing until fully combined.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the chocolate batter over the top of the batter in the pan.
  7. Using a skewer or the tip of a knife, swirl the batters together to create a beautiful marbled effect.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  9. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely before serving.

I took inspiration from another reviewer and made some adjustments to the recipe - I added 1/4 cup of milk (equal to 4 tablespoons) and 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder. The result was perfect. I also used vanilla extract and regular granulated sugar. To create a swirl effect, I combined cocoa powder with 1/4 cup of the batter, gradually mixing in more batter until I achieved a thick, viscous consistency. I poured the main batter into the tube pan and then added spoonfuls of the cocoa mixture, swirling it around. The cake came out of the oven with a beautiful swirl design :)
