All-Day Apple Butter Recipe

Ingredients

  • 5 pounds apples - peeled, cored and finely chopped
  • 4 cups white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • teaspoon ground cloves
  • teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Place the apples in a slow cooker.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Mix well, then pour the mixture over the apples and stir to combine.
  3. Cover the slow cooker and cook on High for 1 hour.
  4. After 1 hour, reduce the heat to Low and cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and turns dark brown. This will take 9 to 11 hours.
  5. Uncover the slow cooker and continue cooking on Low for an additional hour.
  6. If desired, use a whisk to stir and smooth out the mixture.
  7. Spoon the finished mixture into sterile s, cover, and refrigerate or freeze for later use.
