Vodka Martini Cocktail Recipe
James Bond loves vodka martinis, and so do we! Sometimes you just can't beat a classic, and an elegant, refreshing vodka martini is certainly a classic.
Whats in a Vodka Martini?
Vodka martini ingredients are really simple. You'll just need these three key ingredients:
- Vodka - Choose your favorite brand. A good quality vodka is key to a smooth martini.
- Dry Vermouth - Adds a floral and tart flavor to balance the vodka.
- Olives - Opt for Castelvetrano olives, Spanish olives, or any green olive of your choice.
What Makes a Vodka Martini Dirty?
A "dirty" martini includes olive brine, giving it a salty kick along with the olive garnish. This recipe is for a classic martini, but you can easily turn it dirty by adding half an ounce of olive brine.
How to Make a Vodka Martini
Contrary to what 007 may suggest, vodka martinis are traditionally stirred, not shaken. Here's how to make one:
Step 1: Combine Vodka and Vermouth
In a mixing glass, add vodka and dry vermouth. Fill the glass with ice.
Step 2: Stir Until Chilled
Stir the mixture well until it's chilled, ensuring the ingredients are fully combined.
Step 3: Strain into a Chilled Glass
Strain the chilled mixture into a pre-chilled martini glass.
Step 4: Garnish
Top your martini with as many olives as you like, threaded onto a toothpick for an elegant finish.

- Tacketts Mill Farm: "Perfect, simple vodka martini recipe. First time martini drinker (my wife) liked it. Use a high-quality vodka - I used Russian Standard Platinum. Easy, tastes great."
- W Adkisson: "This is the perfect vodka martini. There are lots of variations on the ratios of vermouth to vodka, but I've found I like this best. Especially with Grey Goose Citron vodka. Yum."
- Pilar Williams: "Both my husband and I have never had a martini before, so we really do not know if it compares to anything, but we really like it. I am not a fan of green olives, but in this drink, they are the bomb. My husband likes his dirty with a bit of olive juice, and I like mine neat. Either way, this is a great recipe."

Okay for a fair or poor quality vodka. Vermouth take away the gasoline aftertaste. FIRST don't skimp on the quality of vermouth. Even the best vermouth is fairly cheap. The "Perfect Martini" = Chill a Martini glass AND store the vodka in a freezer or refrigerator. Fill a steel shaker with ice then pour in a good dose of QUALITY vermouth. Shake once or twice and then pour it out the bulk of the vermouth or until the shaker first just starts to drip (if you like a dry Martini) . Now you have the perfect amount of vermouth covering the ice in the shaker. Pour in 2-3 oz vodka, (If you have the means, Begluga Export or Gold line... or) Use a good quality Vodka (Belvedere, Kettle One, Grey Goose, Russian Standard Premiums, Stoli Gold) Shake slowly so as not to bruise the vodka (infuse with air and ice chips) until you feel the steel shaker frosting up. Dump the ice out of the glass and pour the shaker contents down the inside rim of the glass. I use a 1/4 inch thick lemon rind or if I want "Dirty" I go with two Queen olives freshly stuffed with Dutch BlueCheese. Skol!

I actually like almost half-to-half on vodka to vermouth but slightly heavier on the vodka. Shaken well, sit then shake again before pouring into a chilled martini glass. I prefer large queen olives and slightly dirty.

I add a dash of orange bitters for a little additional flavor. Use Russian Standard or Tito's

My go-to libation BUT if you're opting for a lemon twist you might as well go all the way, skip the olives, and throw a cocktail onion or three at it and call it a Gibson, I believe. Cheers, Barry - Whitewater, CO

Made it -- proportions are good (please don't tell me to rinse the glass with vermouth -- you need to be able to taste the botanicals). I added a dash of fee brothers orange bitters.

Followed the ratios to make two Martinis, no olives, added a 1/4 tsp of lime juice for the 2 x beverages. Makes for a great Friday night relax!

After I stopped breathing fire, I (almost) halved the vodka and (nearly) doubled the vermouth. Now it's drinkable - according to my very sweet tooth!

I really do like this drink! Please don’t hate me, but I want to add a couple of little details to avoid confusion. Historically, the classic Martini was made only with gin and dry vermouth, and only garnished with olives. Vodka and the lemon twist option didn’t enter the mix, so to speak, until the early 1960’s (thank you, James Bond). Also, I noticed how some commenters called it a “Perfect Martini”. They may want to know that a Perfect Martini is one made with sweet vermouth, not dry. But, now Martinis made with gin or vodka, and olives or lemon twist are simply personal preference, and it doesn’t really matter what they are called.

At age 60..never had a martini.. so time to try. I'm not really an alcohol aficionado... Smirnoff vodka and martini and Rossi vermouth.. was ok.. frankly not my "drink" ..to heavy of "hard" spirits " taste.. Whiskey sour more my flavor...like a "sweeter" taste with less liquor taste. I can see that just 2 or 3 of these I wouldn't drive..and I'm 6'2' 260.. one was enough. I used 3 green olives with pimentos... And just regular ice cubes out of the tray.
