Sweet French Toast Recipe
Servings: 4
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients
- cup milk
- 3 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- cup cornflakes cereal, crumbled
- 8 slices white bread
- 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar, for dusting
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (or as needed)
Directions
Step 1: In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until fully combined.
Step 2: Stir in the crumbled cornflakes and mix well to distribute them throughout the batter.
Step 3: Working in batches, dip half of the bread slices into the batter, allowing them to soak for 2-3 minutes to absorb the mixture.
Step 4: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
Step 5: Cook the soaked bread slices in the hot skillet for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they are dark golden brown.
Step 6: Repeat the process for the remaining bread slices, soaking and cooking them the same way.
Step 7: Once all the slices are cooked, dust them with confectioners' sugar while they are still hot.
Step 8: Serve immediately and enjoy your crispy and delicious French toast!

This is truly excellent. It's the closest I've come to recreating the amazing French Toast I had at a Breakfast Buffet in Vegas.

I enjoyed the crunchiness of the cornflakes in this recipe, but the instruction to soak the bread for 2-3 minutes seemed unrealistic to me. Unless you have a large baking dish that can fit all the bread slices at once, it's challenging to follow this step. I tried doubling the mixture and adding 7 bread slices, but they soaked up all the liquid completely. This resulted in a flavor imbalance, and I believe it affected the overall taste of the dish. For these reasons, I can only give it 2 stars.

First of all, double the recipe. I used thin bread slices and they soaked up all the flavors! The corn flakes really took it to the next level!! I opted for Frosted Flakes and it was absolutely delicious!!!!

I used the cinnamon swirl bread from our neighborhood bakery to make this French toast. I sliced it nice and thick, getting 4 slices. I ended up adding a few more eggs and milk, along with a splash of syrup, to make 2 more slices. The result was deliciously crispy and moist. French toast always turns out best when made with day-old or drier bread.

I made this recipe with some sandwich bread that was on the verge of going bad. I skipped the cornflakes since I didn't have any, but it turned out amazingly tasty! Instead of soaking the bread slices, I only dipped them in the egg mixture briefly before frying them in melted butter. Drizzled with maple syrup, it turned into a delightful dessert-like treat that was absolutely delicious!

My husband absolutely enjoyed these. I substituted whole grain bread, soy milk, and granola for corn flakes. He mentioned that they tasted wholesome :) Fantastic recipe for a quick and tasty breakfast!

Rewritten review: The combination of maple and cinnamon in this dish provided a pleasant flavor profile that was adequately sweet. The addition of corn flakes added a subtle crunch, which was a nice touch. Although I halved the recipe, I found that I ran out of batter towards the end, making it challenging to fully coat the last piece. I did not let the bread soak for long, opting to quickly dip and fry it in the skillet. Overall, the dish was flavorful but tended to be on the drier side. Despite being sweet enough on its own, adding syrup could have enhanced the overall experience for some. I believe this recipe is worth another try due to its unique twist and enjoyable flavor profile.

Fantastic taste! I found that I had to use 5 eggs and increase the amount of all other ingredients to make 6 slices of bread. I'm skeptical that 3 eggs would suffice for 8 slices, especially when you need to soak each slice for 2 minutes!

Here is the rewritten review: I forgot to stale my bread first and will remember to do that next time. Using brioche bread caused it to become too soggy and fall apart inside. Nevertheless, it turned out to be delicious and was simple to prepare!
