Broccoli Ham Ring Recipe

Broccoli Ham Ring Recipe

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • pound cooked ham, coarsely chopped
  • pound fresh broccoli, chopped
  • 1 bunch fresh green onions, chopped
  • cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon-style prepared mustard
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 (8-ounce) packages refrigerated crescent rolls

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F (175C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the chopped ham, broccoli, green onions, parsley, and Swiss cheese.
  3. Stir in the lemon juice and Dijon mustard, ensuring everything is evenly mixed.
  4. On a 13-inch stone or baking sheet, arrange the crescent roll triangles in a circle with their bases overlapping in the center and their points facing outward. Leave a 3-inch diameter circle in the center of the arrangement.
  5. Evenly spoon the filling over the crescent rolls.
  6. Fold the point of each triangle over the filling and tuck it under the base at the center, leaving the filling partially exposed.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and serve warm.

Fantastic success with friends during our game night. I omitted the onions for personal preference. I found that using a glass in the center while shaping the dish helped maintain a round shape and created a ridge to hold the filling before folding over the corners of the Crescent rolls.

This recipe is a total hit! I didn't have cooked ham so I used canned ham, and substituted Swiss cheese with Natural low-moisture part-skim Mozzarella cheese, which blended perfectly with the other ingredients. I didn't have a 13-inch stone or baking sheet, so I used a 12-inch porcelain plate and it worked well with 12 crescent triangles. The ring turned out solid and made a delightful 'surprise package' of deliciousness. Switching to "butter flaky" rolls instead of regular ones was a game changer with my family, they loved it! Thank you, Rebecca, for sharing this amazing recipe. Update 4/27/09: Running out of crescent rolls, I used flaky biscuits which worked great after flattening and cutting them for the recipe. Update 8/8/09: I've made this recipe numerous times, but I forgot Step 2 this time. The onions were a bit strong, broccoli a bit hard, and the mixture was slightly dry. Despite that, it still tasted good but not as great. I'll make sure to highlight Step 2 for the next time I make this.

The outcome was fantastic, but unfortunately, it didn't quite suit my palate.
