Hot Dog Mummies Recipe
Ingredients
- 8 hot dogs
- 1 (8-ounce) package refrigerated crescent rolls
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard (or as needed) - optional
Directions
Step 1: Gather all the ingredients.
Step 2: Preheat your oven to 350F (175C).
Step 3: Place the hot dogs in a saucepan and cover them with water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer for about 5 minutes or until warmed through.
Step 4: Drain the hot dogs and pat them dry with paper towels.
Step 5: Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into 8 strips. Wrap one strip of dough around each hot dog, leaving small gaps for the eyes, to create the mummy effect.
Step 6: Use the mustard to place small dots on the top of each wrapped hot dog to create facial features like eyes, nose, and mouth.
Step 7: Arrange the wrapped hot dogs on a baking sheet.
Step 8: Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes or until the crescent dough is golden brown and flaky.
Cook's Notes
- You can use ketchup or any other condiment instead of mustard for the facial features. Feel free to get creative and add "hair" or other decorations!
- For mini mummies, use cocktail sausages and cut the crescent dough into thinner strips.
- For vegetarian versions, substitute veggie dogs in place of hot dogs.
- If you want cheesy mummies, place a slice of cheese underneath the dough before wrapping the hot dog.

Great and easy recipe, but we do this for a once in a while treat as it's not too healthy. However, it can be even faster --since hot dogs are already cooked in the package, no need to boil them -- just poke a couple of holes in each one with a fork before you wrap them up in the dough. Skip the step of boiling them -- they get plenty hot in the oven.

What a fun lunch with 4 of my grands, ages 7, 7, 9, and 9! They each made their own mummy with no help from me (except I did cut the crescent roll strips). I used the crescent roll baking sheet rather than the individual rolls. No need to boil hot dogs first. Just an unnecessary step.

My son does not like hot dogs at all but my daughter and husband loved them. I added Velveeta slices (only sliced cheese my daughter eats) in the middle and cut the corners when I pulled them to make the eyes. My daughter does not like boiled so put the dogs in the micro.

Super simple and kid friendly. I skipped the boiling step and just rolled up the cold hot dogs. They were perfect!

Three and one-half stars would be more like it. Looked like a fun and tasty recipe so tried it today using Aidell's chicken and apple sausages as those were on hand and hot dogs were not. They come four to a package, and are pretty large. Sauteed just a few minutes in a skillet first, then halved each one to fit the crescent roll. Something wasn't quite right with the crescent rolls, as they didn't cut easily into triangles as they always have previously, plus it was not so easy to wrap as suggested. Baked as directed but found the dough not quite done enough so next time will bake according to package directions, which is 375 for 9-12 mins. Thank you for an interesting, fun Halloween treat.

Super cute idea! I didn't end up having time to fashion the eyes but it didn't matter because they turned out so well. The kids loved dipping these in bloody ketchup and was a perfect snack before trick or treating. I cooked mine in the air fryer prior to baking. Thank you for the great idea!

Sooo cute and sooo yummy!! A Halloween tradition! If using the candy eye balls, make sure to add them after baking. Mine melted the first time, which I guess you could say made them spooky gooey! LOL

I did this for adults (LOL) for my tiny little Halloween celebration in our backyard with just a couple of Quaranteam friends this year. Quick and easy. I used the Pillsbury Crescent Roll dough, and I had enough from one package for 1.5 packages of hot dogs. They came out so cute and everyone loved them. I used a couple of dollops of mustard for the eyes - just couldn't see using CANDY eyes (which I had, and used instead for green colored Rice Crispy treat Frankenstein's monsters) for such a savory snack.

I make these for Halloween every year. So cute and easy. I use angus beef hot dogs. And thin slices of midget pickles for the eyes.

I left a great review earlier and realized I forgot that I didn’t boil the hot dogs. They are “cooked” so I just popped (8) them into the microwave for 1 minute to start them warming up. The 10 minutes at 350 worked great. Super simple recipe. The kids loved them.

Super good! My whole family loved it. My little brother loved them the most. I recommend making these. Didn’t have any premade croissants so used pizza dough, works just as well!

Grandkids loved making these and they were super cute. I thought crescent dough was too sweet. Maybe try biscuit dough.

I did not cook the hot dogs and just wrapped them with the crescent dough. I would recommend letting the hot dogs come to room temperature before wrapping and baking. A few of the hot dogs were a little cool in the middle.

My six year old son helped to make it as well. It turned out very nicely. Please note that the recipe called for eyes that are mustard, where the pic has sugar eyes. If you like that look, pick up some eyeballs at the store as well as the rest. It was a hit at dinner. What the boys and myself didn't finish my husband did! I would do this again next year for sure.

Doubled. Very popular at kids Halloween party. Added candy eyes once on plate (didn’t secure).
