Deep Fried Green Beans Recipe
Ingredients
This recipe was developed at its original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted, but cooking times and steps remain unchanged. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly. Original recipe (1X) yields 4 servings:
- 1 pound fresh green beans
- cup all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup seasoned bread crumbs
- 2 cups vegetable oil, or as needed
Directions
Step 1: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Once boiling, cook the green beans in the water for about 2 minutes, or until they turn bright green.
Step 2: Immediately transfer the cooked green beans into a bowl filled with ice water to stop the cooking process. Drain the beans and pat them dry using paper towels.
Step 3: Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 350F (175C).
Step 4: Pour the flour into one bowl, and whisk the egg in a separate bowl. In a third bowl, pour in the seasoned bread crumbs.
Step 5: Coat each green bean with the flour, then dip it into the beaten egg to coat evenly. Afterward, press the coated green bean into the bread crumbs, ensuring it is well-covered.
Step 6: Working in batches, fry the breaded green beans in the hot oil for 3 to 5 minutes, or until golden brown. Transfer the fried beans to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Absolutely the best fried green beans I've ever had! I've tried making them myself before, but these are in a league of their own. I've always struggled with the double-dipping process, but even though I had some difficulty getting the second coat to stick here, the seasoned crumbs really took the flavor to the next level. Using fresh green beans from my garden was just the cherry on top. A great tip I picked up was to simplify by using gallon-size ziplock bags instead of two separate bowls for the flour and breadcrumbs. It's not only less messy, but the beans coat perfectly and clean-up is a breeze. Just drop them in, zip, shake, and voila!

The recipe turned out fantastic! I adapted it to be low carb by using crushed pork rinds for breading and almond flour for dredging. I cooked it in the air fryer at 400 degrees for 9 minutes.

I was really pleased with how these turned out. I enhanced my panko breadcrumbs with a mixture of MSG, salt, paprika, and oregano. The only adjustment I made was adding more egg than the original recipe suggested, but overall, I really enjoyed following this recipe. Blanched green beans were a new technique for me, but I believe it greatly enhanced the dish in this instance.

I tried air frying it, but I think I messed up the batter as it ended up breaking in some parts.

Delicious and easy! I followed the advice of other reviewers and added an extra egg. Using large bags made prep easier and ensured everything was evenly coated.
