Sheet Pan Nachos Recipe

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • cup water
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) package tortilla chips
  • 1 (12 ounce) jar pickled jalapeno pepper slices (optional)
  • 1 (4 ounce) can sliced black olives
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 (8 ounce) sour cream
  • 1 cup salsa

Directions

  1. Preheat the ovens broiler and position the oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  2. In a large skillet, heat over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, stirring frequently, for about 5-7 minutes until browned and crumbled.
  3. Once the beef is fully browned, mix in the water, chili powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine and let the flavors meld together for a minute.
  4. On the prepared baking sheet, evenly spread the tortilla chips. Then, spoon the seasoned ground beef mixture over the chips, ensuring a nice even layer.
  5. If using, top with pickled jalapeno slices and black olives for added flavor and garnish.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded Cheddar cheese generously over the beef and toppings.
  7. Place the sheet under the preheated broiler and cook for about 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and serve immediately with sour cream and salsa on the side for dipping.

Cook's Note

You can swap pico de gallo for salsa if preferred. If you're looking for a different cheese, try Colby-Jack or pepper Jack for a slightly different flavor.

This is a great way to eat tacos without the mess Very easy to make. I cannot eat spicy foods so I used a mild salsa. Not only did I make it, I have made it several times

I upped the easy factor and lined up disposable aluminum pans on top of our sheet pan. Everyone customized their own nachos and it is such a nice family activity! We did vegan beef, refried beans, vegan cheese and sour cream, and added fresh tomato and lettuce. And lots of hot sauce!!

Did not use the black olives (don't like them) nor the jalapeno peppers (didn't have any). It was good. 3 minutes in my broiler was WAY too long, the edges of the chips got burnt. Also I would recommend spraying the foil with non stick cooking spray before placing the chips on it, the chips and cheese stuck to the foil. We liked the seasonings, although don't put a lot of salt on the meat as the chips are already salty. Will make this again.

Nachos are always a hit with my family. This recipe has potential. I added fresh cut up tomatoes and used only a teaspoon of New Mexico chili powder which is very spicy. Next time, I would use Salsa Con Queso from Tosititos for the cheese.

You can actually add cold chopped items at the end, like tomatoes, lettuce and cilantro for better flavor and more crunch.

I don’t know why I haven’t made nachos like this before?! So simple and no juggling hot plates. I subbed a can of black beans for the meat (and used the same seasonings, plus a healthy dash of both garlic salt and cumin and a squeeze of lime because I had one on hand) and omitted the olives per personal preference. I served with salsa, sour cream, more jalaps, and quick pickled red onion. Sheet pans: they’re not just for cookies; thanks for the recipe!

What's not to love about sheet pan nachos? You can doctor them up however you choose. Next time I will add cumin and refried beans to the meat mixture. We topped with pico de gallo, chopped avocados and sour cream.. I prefer to bake my nachos in a 350 degree oven until the cheese is melted and the chips just start browning.

12.22.21 Disaster in the kitchen last night. As I was taking the sheet pan out of the oven, it slipped and turned upside down. All of the cheese and toppings were on the oven floor. I salvaged enough for dinner, but to say it wasn’t pretty is an understatement…my fault, not the recipe’s. I used ground turkey instead of ground beef, cut back a little on the cayenne, and added some cumin to the meat spices. All things considered, this tasted pretty good, and I’ll definitely make it again, but next time, I’ll have a firmer grip on the pan.

This worked great. I cut back on the chili powder and added some cumin. I put some foil on the pan to make for easy clean up.

There's nothing easier or better than making a plate of nachos in the oven on a baking tray. Every chip has meat, cheese, and whatever garnishes you enjoy. I used Oaxaca and cotija cheese and guajillo and ancho chile powders with some cumin as my base seasoning. So good!

Really enjoyed these nachos! Used ground turkey instead of beef and packaged shredded Mexican blend cheese. Would also top with shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes next time I make them. YUM!

What an easy and delicious recipe for nacho lovers. Perfect for a game day get together as it can be made in advance and the cheese pull always turns some heads. The sheetpan cooking minimize the dishes I have to do after the party. A keeper for sure.

What I love about this recipe, beside the ease in the preparation, is you can have it ready in advance, and at the last minute pop it in the oven and it takes only minutes. This is perfect for when you want a tasty snack to enjoy while you watch the game.
