- 2 large eggs
- cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoons ground cinnamon, or more to taste
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups apples, peeled and chopped into -inch cubes
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350F (175C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- In a separate medium-sized bowl, whisk the flour, cinnamon, salt, baking powder, and baking soda together until evenly mixed.
- Add the dry ingredients to the sugar mixture and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Fold in the chopped apples until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Spoon the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it out evenly.
- Bake the loaf in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, cover the loaf with aluminum foil.
- Continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the loaf to cool for a few minutes in the pan before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once fully cooled, slice and enjoy!
Cooks Note
For the best results, use firm apples like Braeburn, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, or Honeycrisp. You can also shred the apples if they are very juicy. For an extra touch, top the batter with a buttery oat streusel or a cinnamon-sugar mix before baking.

I love this recipe, however, I have to admit, I changed it somewhat. My daughter had made this and said that she had replaced some of the oil with applesauce. One of the other comments said that it was awfully sweet, and I am trying to cut down on fat and sugar, so......I cut the sugar in half (only 1 cup), omitted the oil and put in 1 cup of applesauce. It turned out scrumptious!

1/31/2023 I see by the earlier review I first made this bread in 2017! Just made it for the umpteenth time because we had a huge bag of huge Fugi apples. Again, this truly makes amazing...muffins!! I'm still using half white/half brown sugar. It seriously tastes like you are eating a caramel apple! Amazing bread! I used half white and half brown sugar...yum! Also used Gala apples (as that's what I had around) and extra cinnamon. I will definitely make this again!! I always wrap my breads in foil within 10 minutes of coming out of the oven. Keeps all that moisture in!

I bought a 25# box of apples from our local cidery-that’s a lot for two people if only one is a huge appalled fan! This recipe had the look of something great to have with morning coffee, and it sure delivers. I made 1.5 x the recipe for all ingredients except sugar due to other reviews of it being very sweet. That perfectly filled two of the slightly smaller foil loaf pans, so I had another loaf to give or freeze. I diced the apples small for better distribution, and subbed Penzey’s Pie spice for the seasonings. Delicious.

I read this recipe and it seemed just what I was looking for. I had frozen apples I needed to use up. I read the other reviews and I used a tip from one of the other reviews and used half light brown sugar and the other half the white sugar. I did divide the batter in half used 2 9 X 5 pans which helped them to bake all the way through. I baked them at the 350 for 30 mins then put tinfoil on the top as directed in recipe and baked for another 8 mins. It is delicious and I am keeping this recipe as my go to apple bread recipe from now on. It did stick in my greased pan so next time I will either grease and flour or use parchment paper. Thank you so much for this delicious treat.

It's delicious. I changed a few things, though. I only used 1.5 cups sugar instead of 2. And I think even less could be used; maybe 1 cup. I used 1/3 cup oil (not 1/2) and I cut up 4 medium sized apples, not 2 cups. The extra apples taste better and they add enough moisture that you can use less oil. Finally, it took about 85 minutes to cook completely. I think because of the extra moisture from the additional apples. After 45 minutes I covered it with foil, as the recipe says, and I checked it every 10 minutes with a toothpick until it came out clean. Took about 40 extra minutes.

So I went into this recipe pretty skeptical with the reviews. However, I’m not sure where people messed up. I made it exact and then I tweaked it. It was incredibly sweet so I subbed in some apple sauce, did half brown sugar, and didn’t put as much sugar in general. The only thing I did differently was I made this in a bundt pan. It cooked perfect in an hour. At 350 gas oven. I didn’t need the foil either. It’s a very dense and moist dessert bread and it’s amazing. The original recipe is amazing too it’s just on the very sweet side however, I think maybe try doing this in a bundt pan. I have a loaf in the oven and if there’s no update on this review then it came out amazing as well.

I generally always follow the directions as written, but I decided to add some cranberries (fresh), white chocolate chips, and orange rind. The results were out of this world! Delightful!

I made 16 fabulous muffins using this text as a starting point. But as a recipe, the text is very unhelpful and doesn't really deserve this grade. I fear that I'd have been most unhappy if I hadn't read virtually every review. My major tweak was making muffins to avoid any done-ness problems. Muffins really work in my home anyway. The other major tweak was changing the sugar as others have (1/2 c [110 g] white granulated + rounded 1/2 c [106g] dark brown). I also added walnuts, and a little water + doubled the cinnamon. I sifted my 240g of a.p. flour; the recipe doesn't say so but the accompanying video does. (I avoid sifting, and I'd guess I'm not alone in that. So I wonder if this could have contributed to some people's problems.) For the record, my eggs were jumbo because that's what I had. Prep time was way way way over 15 min.

I liked the recipe but it has more of a cake like consistency not like bread, at least for us. My daughter and I made it yesterday, Jan 30, to pay honor to my mother who passed five years ago. She loved to cook and my mom and daughter would often bake together. We changed a few things but the bread was moist and very delicious. I like cinnamon so I added a bit more than the recipe called for. We just ran out of eggs earlier today so I substituted baking soda and vinegar for the eggs (a trick I recently learned after baking a depression era chocolate cake). We didn't use vegetable oil but instead we used Country Crock vegetable spread. This has a higher water concentration and probably caused the bread to cook too fast. Otherwise, the recipe was fabulous and it turned out well. Oh, I cooked it on 350 as the recipe calls for but since it did cook a little too fast and burned just a teensy bit on the bottom, I will bake it at 325 next time. I put the foil on as directed in the recipe but it still browned quickly on top, corners and bottom. It might be because I used my stoneware loaf pan from Pampered Chef, but I love it.

I really like this recipe because it's for a very dense and moist bread. It's not light and fluffy like most other bread recipes that that taste more like a muffin in my opinion. I will say that this recipe is a total deal breaker unless you cut the sugar in HALF. It's still a bit sweeter than I like but I realize most people like their sweet bread ...sweet. I did add a few things that I thought worked well --diced figs and nuts as well as a little all spice--coconut chips would be good too. I graded half the apples (for moisture) and diced half into chunks for taste. I made a double batch and it had to cook an extra 10-15 minutes. I really like this recipe and I will definitely make it again!

Quick and easy bread for breakfast or dessert. I changed a few things up and it came out delicious. I used 1 cup flour and 1 cup almond flour, 1 cup palm sugar and 1/4 cup brown sugar and added a dash more salt to help. Also my 2 cups of chopped apples was a full 2 to 2 1/2 cups. I also substituted oil for coconut oil. I had to bake an extra 30 minutes coved in foil after the initial 45. But it rose beautifully and was a deep molasses/caramel brown color. This bread was so moist and dense, but cakey...absolutely loved it. I will make again

I added some bananas to mine. Very tasty. Made it 4 or 5 times in the past 2 weeks. We have a LOT of zucchini. Good job Debbie.

“Amazing” is a good description, It was moist, fruity, and not too sweet. It’s already a staple in our kitchen!

This is a very forgiving recipe so I give it 5 stars! I know some folks don't like rating a recipe so high when changes are made, but I live an hour from a store, so I LOVE substitutions and knowing how they do. I doubled the recipe...but my adhd brain doubled the oil ( I used one cup applesauce and one cup oil...I should have only added one cup of oil/applesauce...but the cake came out well! I also added a topping of pecans, apples, butter, brown sugar and cinnamon to the top and that worked well. I do love a forgiving recipe!

Fantastic. I made it and put it in mini spring form pans, and a mini loaf pan, to give away for Christmas. They are delicious and adorable

I made this today and my husband loved it! The only change I made was I added a dash of nutmeg and a dash of ground cloves along with the cinnamon. The baking time was spot on. I used two large Granny Smith apples, and I'll use smaller ones next time, since I was just a tad over the 2 cups. It was moist and tasted great while still warm with some butter on it! Will make again.

Add more salt and cinnamon, and for sure add milk. I think they forgot to include that in the ingredients
