Grilled Cauliflower Steaks Recipe
Ingredients
- cup olive oil
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- teaspoon chili powder
- 1 pinch ground black pepper
- 2 large heads cauliflower
- 2 tablespoons minced cilantro (optional)
Directions
Step 1: Preheat your outdoor grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.
Step 2: In a bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, salt, smoked paprika, brown sugar, chili powder, and black pepper. Set this mixture aside.
Step 3: Remove the tough bottom leaves from each cauliflower head, making sure not to remove the stem.
Step 4: Place the cauliflower heads on a cutting board with the stem side facing up. Cut vertically along both sides of the stem to remove any loose florets.
Step 5: Slice each cauliflower vertically through the stem into two even "steaks," about 1 to 1 inches thick. Remove any remaining small leaves from the steaks.
Step 6: Arrange the cauliflower steaks on a baking sheet. Brush one side of each steak with some of the prepared oil mixture.
Step 7: Place the cauliflower steaks on the preheated grill, oil-side down, and grill for 5 minutes.
Step 8: Brush more of the oil mixture on top of the steaks and carefully flip them over. Grill for an additional 5 to 7 minutes, or until they are golden brown and slightly charred.
Step 9: Drizzle any remaining oil mixture over the grilled steaks and transfer them to a plate. Optionally, sprinkle with fresh minced cilantro before serving.
Recipe Tip
If you have extra cauliflower florets, you can grill them in a grill basket alongside the steaks or refrigerate them for another use.

Very straightforward and easy to follow. Dining companions found it a tad sweet, so may lower brown sugar to 1/4 tsp. Smoked paprika was a winner First attempt and will definitely try again and add some tweaks

Really flavorful! I had a hard time cutting the cauliflower into "steak" shapes and it just crumbled under the knife, so I just stir fried it and added spring onion and cayenne pepper.

My only two changes: 1) my cauliflower must be on the large size as I only needed one (I saved the second head now for another recipe), and 2) I was nervous about putting these “steaks” directly on the grill so I put them on a thin, Pam-sprayed, tinfoil pan instead. I was worried they would fall apart! The tinfoil pan worked well!! Good flavor and easy to prepare! Loved the “steak” idea! Really good and would make again! Thanks FranceC!

The steaks were awfully bland; the sauce could have used more "punch." Also, I think that 7 minutes for each side, turning twice, would work better. I followed the recipe as written and 5 minutes on the grill for the first side wasn't enough. I would also cut the steaks thinner. The recipe says to get 2 steaks from each head of cauliflower; you can easily get 3 steaks and then they wouldn't need so long on the grill. I was a little disappointed.

I was in a hurry, so I stir fried them. Everyone loved the spice mix.

Delicious, but my steaks took 15-20 mins per side.

I used the Grill function on my oven toaster. My salmon and cauliflower did not come out crispy. Will have to experiment with the temperature settings to get it right the next time.

I forgot to add the cilantro at the end, but it didn't affect my rating. We really liked this recipe, cauliflower on the grill was a nice change of pace. This recipe will be made again.

Very good! My only problem is that no matter how hard I try, my cauliflower explodes into pieces when I try to cut it. I can only get two slices out of the center, and the rest breaks appart. Otherwise it's delicious!
