Ingredients

Dressing:

  • cup white sugar
  • cup olive oil
  • cup distilled white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1 tablespoon minced onion
  • teaspoon paprika
  • teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Salad:

  • 1 quart strawberries - cleaned, hulled, and sliced
  • 10 ounces fresh spinach - rinsed, dried, and torn into bite-sized pieces
  • cup almonds, blanched and slivered

Directions

Step 1: Gather all the ingredients needed for both the dressing and salad.

Step 2: To make the dressing, whisk together sugar, olive oil, distilled vinegar, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, minced onion, paprika, and Worcestershire sauce in a medium bowl. Continue whisking until the ingredients are well combined.

Step 3: Once the dressing is prepared, cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator to chill for 1 hour. This allows the flavors to meld together.

Step 4: For the salad, combine the sliced strawberries, torn spinach leaves, and slivered almonds in a large mixing bowl.

Step 5: After the dressing has chilled, pour it over the salad mixture. Toss everything gently to ensure the ingredients are evenly coated with the dressing.

Step 6: Refrigerate the salad for 10 to 15 minutes before serving. This helps the salad cool and allows the flavors to settle.

Serve chilled and enjoy your refreshing strawberry spinach salad with a sweet dressing!

This salad is so tasty, specifically the dressing is out of this world delishhh. It is important to chill the dressing for a bit after mixing the ingredients together so that they blend with eachother well and mix well right before pouring it on the salad. My advice is not to skip the onion even if you don't like them because they play an important role in the taste of the dressing. You can hardly taste them in the dressing as the onion taste is not the dominant taste but they play an important role in marrying the sugar and vinegar together to create the specific taste this dressing has. For mine I halved the amount of sugar and it still came out super. I love the strawberries in the salad, but if you don't have them they can also be substituted for other fruits such as pineapple, oranges, or apples. A+ :)

This is one of our family favorites and one we make often. One thing I have learned is to put all the dressing ingredients in the blender and puree' instead of trying to finely chop the onion and wisk everything together. MUCH easier! In the winter time when strawberries are out of season (or just for a change), I use a can or two of mandarin oranges instead of strawberries. Crumbled feta cheese is also good on this salad if you like feta and crushed walnuts are a good (and cheaper) substitute for the almonds if you don't have almonds on hand. Thanks for the recipe!

This recipe was a big winner. Small modifications to the original: Cut the sugar down to ¼ cup. Add a few turns of fresh ground pepper Use balsamic vinegar. Use red onion. Add some fresh bacon bits Add a mix of blue cheese and feta cheese. Also, do not mix the dressing in with greens, as it will only wilt the salad. Just apply as normal dressing. Mixing in the dressing and letting it sit I think would make it too ‘limpy’. We put a few red onion slices on top with the cheese and bacon. It was great. The sweetness of the dressing would have been excessively much at ½ cup of sugar. This we will make again and again and again.

This is great but substitue balsamic vinegar for white, purple onions instead of white then add blueberries and bananas to the strawberries and it's to die for.

Lightly toast the almonds instead of blanching them. Use dried minced onions. Make the dressing in a mason jar and shake as needed You can also reduce the sugar without affecting taste

I've made this many times. I cut the sugar back in the dressing to 3 Tbsp's which gave it a wonderful contrast of sweet and sharp. I also used blanched sliced almonds and candied them to add the sweetness missing in the dressing and a little crunch to the salad. Rave reviews from co-workers and family.

I used 3 tbs of sugar, 1/3 cup olive oil and balsamic vinegar. No leftovers! IMO, this produces more than 4 servings unless this is a large part of your meal.

I have made this recipe many times. Have started adding feta cheese and diced chicken to make as a nice summer meal with deviled eggs on the side. My time saving way of making this is by warming vinegar in a jar to help dissolve the sugar. Grate the onion with a cheese grater for less cleanup, mix dressing by shaking in the jar, and then can easily store leftover w/o dirtying another dish. Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe!

I loved this recipe. I committed the cardinal sin of changing some of the recipe, but that tells me that the recipe is very forgiving. I cut back the sugar and oil in the dressing, added canned mandarin oranges, thinly sliced red onion, blue cheese, and honey roasted nuts. Thanks to everyone who contributed to making this a great recipe.

This was absolutely delicious! I made some changes based on the reviews and what I had on hand. Used balsamic vinegar, made candied walnuts following another reviewers suggestion (mixed together egg white, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, then added walnuts, baked until golden), added blueberries & blue cheese . . . awesome salad that even my kids loved.

This recipe makes at least three times more dressing than you'll need. So either cut down that amount or triple the amount of spinach. I found the dressing unnecessarily sweet, even with only 6T sugar. Next time I'd do 3T of sugar max.

I always like something a little sweeter so I used apple cider vinegar and I’m thinking about trying it with balsamic next time

We didn't have either of the seeds and it was still the best S.Spinach salad I think I have ever had. Thank you for the recipe!

This is a yummy salad with lots of potential for variation. Next time, I plan to add half the sugar to the dressing and see if it is sweet enough.

loved it. I use Red Wine vinegar for a little zest. I use onion powder instead. I leave out the sesame seeds. I add can of drained Mandarin oranges for the citrus flair. My entire family loves it.

I really like this. I'm fact, my wife just asked me to make more. Like one reviewer, I used 3 T of sugar (and even then I think that's too much), 1/3 cup of olive oil and basalmic vinegar with a little bit of feta. Delicious!
