Microwave Corn on the Cob in the Husk Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 ear fresh corn in the husk
Directions
- Rinse the corn in the husk briefly under cold water.
- Wrap the corn in a paper towel and place it on a microwave-safe plate.
- Cook the corn in the microwave for 3 to 5 minutes, or until it is hot and cooked through.
- Remove the corn from the microwave and let it rest for 2 minutes.
- Carefully remove the husk from the corn. The silk will come off with the husk, leaving the corn clean and ready to eat.
Cook's Note
Cooking time may vary depending on the size of the corn and the power of your microwave. For a large ear of corn, I cook it for 5 minutes in a 1000-watt microwave. Smaller ears may need less time. There's no need to remove the corn silk separately; it will come off when you remove the husk. To avoid burning yourself, use a clean dishcloth to handle the hot corn when removing the husk.

In my view, this is the most delicious and simplest method for preparing corn on the cob. For easy removal of the husk and silk, consider cutting off the base just at the bottom row of kernels before cooking. Once cooked, gently squeeze the top end of the corn for it to slide out from the bottom. This technique leaves the corn clean, with the husk intact containing the silk inside. A hassle-free way to discard the husks!

This method has never let us down. Cooking each ear for three and a half minutes worked perfectly for us. Over the weekend, we decided to microwave 4 ears for a total of fourteen minutes. After letting them rest, we cut about an inch off the stalk end and used a dish towel or oven mitts to remove the kernels. The corn was hot and cooked just right. A bit of butter, salt, and pepper, and you're all set to enjoy a delicious meal.

I didn't bother wrapping in paper towel, yet there was no hassle, no mess, and the taste remained fresh. I will certainly use this method again!

Super simple and I find that it has a more intense corn flavor when not cooked in a big pot of water. And it's quick too!

For years (I'm 77), I have adored corn on the cob but loathed the hassle of removing the corn silk. But then, a game-changing revelation! Simply pop the corn in the microwave while still in the husk, and presto! The silk miraculously disappears along with the husk! Only a couple of stray silk threads were left behind! Not to mention, the kernels were the most delicious and crispiest I've ever tasted from my own corn-cooking adventures! Thank you, Elberta, for this incredible tip!

Excellent choice for when the weather doesn't allow outdoor grilling.
