Homemade Dog Liver Bites Recipe

Homemade Dog Liver Bites Recipe

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

This recipe was developed at its original yield. Ingredient amounts are automatically adjusted, but cooking times and steps remain unchanged. Note that not all recipes scale perfectly.

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • pound chicken livers, rinsed and trimmed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, or more as needed

Directions

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 325F (165C). Grease a 9-inch square baking dish and line it with parchment paper.

Step 2: Add oats to the bowl of a food processor. Pulse until finely chopped, about 10 to 15 seconds. Transfer oats to a large bowl and mix in the flour.

Step 3: Place the livers in the food processor and process until smooth, about 10 to 15 seconds.

Step 4: Add eggs to the food processor with the livers and blend until well combined, around 10 seconds. Add oil and process until fully incorporated.

Step 5: Add the liver mixture to the oat and flour mixture. Stir until everything is well blended.

Step 6: Spoon the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.

Step 7: Bake in the preheated oven until firm to the touch but not hard and crispy, about 30 to 40 minutes.

Step 8: Remove from the oven and let cool completely before cutting into 50 pieces.

Recipe Tips

  • You can substitute beef liver for chicken liver if preferred.
  • If you dont have a food processor, you can use a blender or liquidizer. Alternatively, finely chop the oats and liver on a cutting board before combining them.

My dog loved these, cried whilst they were cooling.i baked them for 30 minutes. Then sliced & diced them up & baked for a further 15 minutes to make them crunchier. Better then store bought. Saving a lot of money & know exactly what's in them

Today was my 2nd time making these, the first were devoured by both my doggos and by doggos I had gifted some too. Today I added 6 Tsp ground flax seed and a tsp of turmeric for heart health and joint pain relief. I'm also doing a 2nd bake once cut up for more crunch. Then I'll use the food saver to portion them out for the freezer so they'll always have some fresh. PS I use the deer livers that my hunters bring me, even healthier than chicken, pork or beef livers!!

I make a very similar recipe, although I use canned pumpkin, liver ,eggs, oil and flour. The main difference is that I score them before baking, then separate them and put into a dehydrator to remove all moisture. Perfect dog cookies! Add-ins could include sesame seeds, finely grated apple or zucchini, etc.

My dogs loved it! Circling me like sharks for more 😅. Even my kitty ate 2 🙌 I did dried them up bit more after cutting in the oven and omitted eggs because of puppy allergies. This are the hit in our house. Thank you for sharing.

I used a one-pound calf liver and doubled the recipe. I used a Vitamix and it worked very well for the oats and liver. I was concerned about feeding my lab puppy oatmeal and wheat flour but he has been eating milk bones for several weeks and this recipe is a thousand times better than what is in a milk bone. My pup absolutely loves these treats.

Excellent recipe to get you on your way and create what your pup likes from there. I now use coconut oil for my fat, and skip the four and do 2 cups of blended oats. I then dump that in a bowl and blend my liver and 2 chicken eggs or 1 duck egg. Then mix it all together. To get a nice spread I just wet my hands before patting it or spray it with a little water as I’m spreading it. I keep them in a bag in the freezer, my dog enjoys them frozen as well. I can put a couple in my pocket and then just break off tiny pieces for training. Given some to friends dogs as well and they all love it!

I've made this a few times now and our 3 dogs love it. As it's written out (in my opinion) it's too dry. I had a hard time spreading it out into the pan. To that end I doubled the vegetable oil. Usually I add half a 15oz can of canned pureed pumpkin and sometimes a few dried cranberries. The cranberries didn't go over that well we noticed so we stopped adding those but they love the pumpkin. I'm going to try to puree some frozen veggies and add those next time I make this. Oh I also take some Nuvet Plus vitamin wafers and NuJoint Plus wafers and grind them up and add them. Maybe 7 vitamin wafers and 10 of the NuJoint wafers. At any rate our 3 cattle dogs love these liver treats. I switch between chicken livers and beef liver. The chicken livers are easier to grind up but the dogs seem to like the beef liver treats a little better. Anyway we love these around here!!

We used coconut flour as it is easier on dogs digestive track vs regular flour..They LOVE them. We vacuum sealed them for better freshness.

My little guys loved these! I used beef liver since that was at our market. Since it came in a pound, I doubled the batch. I through eggs in whole since eggshells is a good source of calcium. I put the entire batch cut up in gallon freezer bag and took out a weeks worth into food container and kept n refrigerator. I got tired of splitting them up in sandwich bags. Easier & better for environment.

I added the oil from a tin of sardines. And even the fussiest dogs in the park loved them! My favourite recipe for dog treats.

This is my 2nd comment on these Liver Treats back in February so needing to say that since making these for my 180 lb Great Pyrenees "Bear" he has lost weight!!. I home cook all his meals and gave him Bone Marrow and Old Roy biscuits as treats🫤 Stopped that nonsence.😄 So now he has lost weight just giving him these. Plus I have piece of mind knowing that is in this recipe that is good for him. Plus the fact he loves liver😃 I also make the Pumpkin Cookies As well for him. Best recipe ever Bear Thanks you 😋

It's official. My dog is an addict now, and I think she needs a 12 step program, lol. She won't even look at her regular dog food now, she knows exactly what shelf in the fridge they are kept, and sits and whines every time we walk near it for more. So yes, it is definitely a keeper. Good recipe. Have you considered marketing this? If you won't, I will 😉

My old friend dog Spencer has high liver enzymes from years of medication for his epilepsy. So made this and added milk thistle, flax seed, marshmallow root, turmeric and stinging nettle to help lower those enzymes. Spencer loved them! I wished that the recipe showed serving size for different size dogs.

My sweet Harley LOVES these! I've made both beef and chicken liver and a second batch of the chicken liver is in the oven now. Thank you SO much for the recipe!
