Ginger-Turmeric Herbal Tea Recipe
Ingredients
This recipe is written for its original yield. Ingredient amounts adjust automatically for different servings, but cooking steps and timing remain the same. Scaling may not be perfect for all recipes.
- 2 cups water
- teaspoon ground turmeric
- teaspoon freshly chopped ginger
- teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 lemon wedge
Original Yield: 2 servings
Directions
- Gather all ingredients and set them within easy reach.
- Pour the water into a small saucepan and bring it to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
- Once boiling, add turmeric, fresh ginger, and cinnamon. Stir gently to combine.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and allow the mixture to simmer for 10 minutes, letting the flavors meld together.
- Strain the tea into a large glass or teacup to remove the solids.
- Stir in honey until fully dissolved, then serve with a wedge of lemon for a bright, zesty finish.
Recipe Tip
If desired, you can replace honey with maple syrup for a different natural sweetness.

There is no need to strain this, the spices are good for you! I liked this hot or cold. Make sure to cool this so when the hot tea is poured over ice, it doesn't crack the glass if serving as an iced beverage!

I doubled the recipe (to have more for later), added a few peppercorns (from other recipes) crushed the ginger and boiled the whole thing with a half lemon sliced with the rind and a cinnamon stick, strained and it came out quite lovely and fragrant, similar to a "friendship tea." Had to add a little extra honey because the lemon made it sour. I have shared this recipe with my patients recovering from colds and other respiratory illnesses or who have aches and pains.

I wasn't for sure how it was going to taste and what a surprise I got. This tea is wonderful. I do have one concern though, I have always thought that black pepper was needed to activate the turmeric in order to get the full benefits, but you did not add it.

You HAVE TO ADD PEPPER AND OIL (Coconut, EVOO, or the like) for your body to absorb the curcurmin in the turmeric. Otherwise you will get NO BENEFITS from turmeric. I just started drinking this to see if it will help with my Polymyalgia Rheumatica Autoimmune Disease I was recently diagnosed with. It's an inflammatory disease and is EXTREMELY PAINFUL. So I am praying this is a natural way to help me relieve the pain.

This is not a tea at all; it is a turmeric-ginger hot beverage. As a result, it is missing the body a tea provides (tastes like watered down tea). The flavor of the spice blend is lovely, however. By adding tea leaves, which provide polyphenols (an antioxidant), you will further improve the nutritional value. So, next time I will steep this concoction with some black or green tea leaves for a hardy warm winter drink.

I love this recipe because it's the perfect upset-tummy-head-cold-stuffy-nose-its-too-crummy-outside type tea. You can also gauge how much of one ingredient or another you want over the times of making it. I personally add more ginger so that it helps my throat feel good. I also enjoy it MUCH more when its warm, it's the perfect tummy and cold remedy. The tea is also filled with wonderful nutrients and vitamins that make your digestive tract very happy, and your body very healthy :) **TIPS the turmeric WILL stain anything that you use to make this! I use a dark colored pot, and immediately wash the strainer and spoon I use when I make this. I store it in a drink container (about 2 qt) that is meant only for this tea!

I love reading review before I make something. I learned about turmeric staining, so I was very careful and used a dark pan and a glass ball jar. I also added some peppercorn to it to work with the turmeric for anti-inflammatory purposes. I never strained it. I not only kept everything in it, I added more ginger. I love ginger. The cinnamon was yummy in it. I didn’t have any lemon, but I will next time. I added some honey in the end. I drank it all at once and used a spoon to get all of the extra ginger. This will be a staple in this house.

Made with 3 cups lemon juice. Instead of water, 1 whole sliced lemon. Doubled spices . Put in mason jar with pour spout. After cooling put in fridge. Pour 2 ounces in my 40 oz tumbler fill with ice & water every morning

Used dried for fresh (3:1 fresh to dried herbs except for ginger which is 4:1, 1/8tsp ground dried). Had lemon juice already so I added a touch of that and used agave over honey. My LO liked it, too.

I just made this and found that grating the ginger and turmeric root into boiling water was best for me. I added crushed peppercorns, lemon and honey. Left out the cinnamon but I’m curious to try it next time. Will be a staple in my house now.

I boil only the ginger and strain into a cup. Then I add the cinnamon, turmeric and lemon. The honey is a nice addition if you like it sweeter but I do not use it. I find adding everything after straining the ginger to be less messy. Also, I always add black pepper to help with turmeric absorption!

Made EXACTLY as recipe in measurements. I grated the ginger as i wanted a solid ginger flavor instead of the other spices. In the end, a VERY good tea, HOWEVER, the cinnamon I think overpowers it. I think in the Fall and Winter, I might prefer this, BUT as looking for Ginger-based with the other spices to give it a twist also good for you, I think the amounts need to be tweaked. So, only made once and not sure the amounts yet, but less Cinnamon. I'd start with 1/4t first.

It was pretty tasty, and my body somehow felt more energetic. It is perfect for a morning drink, and a better alternative for coffee and other caffeine containing drinks. Overall it was good. Might try, again!

I like this as a general idea. I use fresh turmeric and a cinnamon stick because I don’t like the texture of it with the ground. Also, the honey should be to taste. A tablespoon is just too sweet for me.
